Not good...
"Tennessee won't talk to Pearl until after his Wisconsin-Milwaukee team is eliminated in the NCAA Tournament. But he's sent word to Hamilton that he has serious interest in the job, according to two people familiar with UT's search."
Hamilton is the AD.

Creighton's coach is the leading candidate.

UT is not that desirable of a job. Sure it is bigger than the UWM job but you would be third in the TN campus food chain.
At UT football is king then you have womens B-Ball.
I don't think Pearl jumps at the first larger school opening.
Indiana could open up next year etc.

the only really attractive thing about tennessee is that they have unlimited resources to throw at the program. you're right that you are indeed second or even third fiddle to other priorities there so i guess it's really a matter of where the school wants to take the program. i still find it hard to fathom that pearl would want to be somewhere where he wasn't "the show."

UT may not be the best program but it would be awfully hard to say no to 1.5 mm. If they offer that to the guy, he's out of here and I don't blame him.

I agree that TN men's hoops takes third fiddle, but there's NO WAY Bruce expects to be "the show," not if he wants to go to a "bigger" program. If this were the case, he'd basically be limiting himself to schools without football programs, the vast majority of which are no better than UWM.
Reality check, money talks. If UT or any other school approaches him with 7 figures, or close to, who in their right mind could blame him for going? Certainly not me.
Let's enjoy Thursday. This is gravy on top of an incredible season. Whatever happens after, well, is going to happen.

i agree 97, whatever happens happens and we'll be ok either way. no way you can second guess BP if he takes 7 figures from a non-bball dominated school, anyone would. again, that's the upside to UT... they're the wealthiest school in the SEC. at this point it's all just fruitless speculation that will be worth talking about once we've exited the dance (hopefully not for a few weeks though)

I posted this yesterday...... in this thread - uwmfreak.proboards5.com/index.cgi?board=Games&thread=1111517894&action=display&start=0While the UT job is a good one for someone, I don't know if it is a good fit for BP. I see what you are saying about sharing the limelight with football, but at UT, football is not a co-star like it is at some shools - it is far and away king. Secondly, I don't know if jockeying for position with the women's team is something that BP would want to do.........maybe it is, but I don't see it..........only time will tell.

Edit: Just to be clear, Cincy does have football, but it is not that big of a deal - however, this may change a bit given some time in the Big East.

you could certainly make that argument for a number of schools: cincy, duke, UNC, kansas, etc... and of course these are some of the premier bball programs.
side note, just heard EKU's coach will be announced as head coach at UMass tomorrow (heard on espn radio)
