Help me out here. Everytime I come to Milwaukee and close the bars on Water Street I can't find food anywhere close and wind up taking a cab to Oakland Gyros. Is there anywhere that's a very quick walk from the Water St. drinking establishments?

Welcome to the board.
A little bit of a random topic considering we just won the conference.
But anyway, I have lived in this town for a while now and never came across a late-late night place around Water Street. Being a one time insomniac, there are a few others you should try... Pizza Shuttle on Farwell between Royall and Kane serves a good pizza by the slice until the wee hours. I've (thankfully) graduated from doing this but Jalisco's on North Ave gets crazy at 2am for giant burritos. Ma Fischers on Farwell and Kenilworth servers breakfast all night. You found a good one with Oakland Gyros.
Good luck.

bigjoe,
Yeah, unfortunately there isn't much open food-wise in the immediate Water Street area after 2 a.m. (am I'm sure there is a reason there isn't).
All of the above are good options, but if you want something a little closer, head over to the Marquette area and try Real Chili ... absolutely fantastic. There are two Real Chili locations, one by Marquette and one by the "trendy" bars downtown. The one by MU is open past bar time ... I'm not sure about the other.

There's also George Webb's down by the Velvet Room if you're looking for a "greasy spoon."

Screw Water Street, head up to UWM country at North Ave. and avoid all this posh crap that's overtaking Water. Plus, North Ave has all the fixins like El Chico Zuma's (#1!), Grecian Delight (Good, but not OG's), Qdoba, and Jaliscos. Not sure if the mini-donut stand is open late? Also, don't forget about the meat wagon, and maybe even Hooligans serves late! Oh yeah, and Ma Fischers. Oh yeah, and Burger Hell on Wednesdays at BBC. AND...eat free M & M's, Chex Mix, and Peanuts at Paddy's all night long.
Man I could go on forever here!
P.S. There's a Jimmy John's south of the bars on Water St.
