Now before i hang up my sneaks on detroit and move on to bigger and better lines of conversation (ncaa tourney), here are several quotes from the Detroit message board that made me laugh:
"Consider we had 32 pep band and 14 cheerleaders who out-noised that student section often last night."
"Bruce Pearl is not going to the Big Ten, he couldnt hold Bo Ryan's jock-strap. Perry Watson outcoached him big time with the difference being one point and a win..."
"They (the cell block?) DID NOT boo their cheerleaders..." (in reference to our booing UD cheerleaders and band, the later deserves to be booed).

That quote is definitely not true. The Cell was amazingly loud. Perhaps the largest student section in Horizon League history. I would like to know how that compares to Marquette and Wisconsin. Visually it will be tough as our fans crowd the first 15 rows without assigned seating. We had one heck of a turn out last night and really since winter break.
Perry Watson is a great coach, no doubt about it. Is he a better coach? Maybe last night he was? Who cares? Coach Pearl has 3 back to back post season tournaments and has got it done by dominating the conference season. Perry has not, especially this year finishing below .500.

I think UW gets 2,200 I seem to remember thats the number for every game and then the remaining 300 tickets got rotated between students that got screwed in their lottery making it a grand total of 2500 students for each game

I was roaming the UDM board earlier and came across those quotes too. Very funny! Especially that apparently they have big soft spots for their cheerleaders and pep-band in Detroit and how dare anybody not bow down and offer the red carpet treatment when they arrive. Give me an f'n break and don't be so emotional. And because we booed they're squads, we should also boo our own cheerleaders and band? I'm not going to boo my team or supporters even when we're down, and I'm certainly not gonna take offense to someone dogging them either. We're all big boys and girls, we can take it!
They speak of class, yet, their adult fans happily sported the "Buck Futler" shirts 2 years ago in the tourney. Not like I care, but just don't be such a hypocrate.
And yes, I'm sure that their bus of people was louder than our entire section. From my vantage point on ESPN, I never saw a Detroit group.

There was also nice things said about UWM. the one i found most interesting was this one.
" also want to say how impressed I was with the female contingent that was there. The two ladies sitting next to me were H-O-T!! They laughed a few times at my intensity. All around the arena though, the Milwaukee ladies were looking good. Props to them for that!!!"
Something on US
but I want to give UWM fans props as well. They respected our little group of Titans and we respected them.
Something on the Cell
For a 54 year old building, that recently got refurbished, this is one of the best old barns I have ever seen. What a great place to watch a game. They did a great job with the arena and the surrounding area. The arena was clean and well lit and the sound system was digital quality.
and then there is more talk about bruce pearl
Oh yes there is one more thing he can now do...GET PAID! UConn or BC (his alma mater) will not have coaching acancies soon. UMass is an upper echelon school in New England, in the A10 with world class facilities and an arena that needs bodies to fill. UMass can offer Bruce the money that he would have to seriously consider.
BC, so contending for a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament and almost becoming an undeafeated team in College ball means you will get a new coach. This is the point where we go. UDM fans have no idea what they are talking about. Additionally, UMASS and the A10 are just one small step above the HL. and UMASS while a likly choice for bruce, (moving back to home or something) would not be that big of difference. Maybe they will pay him 50,000-100000 more dollars. But lets get real. BPs next job will be big. Not UMASS. It will be huge.

Umm, he does say that UConn and BC will NOT have vacancies.
I'll be honest, if UMass opens up, it will be an intriguing job for Bruce. Their gym is first-class and they will have more money to offer. I could see Bruce moving there, a la Thad Matta moving from Butler to Xavier.

Regarding our student section booing UDM's cheerleaders and band, I personally think that doing so is completely classless and is a very poor reflection of our university. I have never, NEVER, been to an arena where this is done on such a consistent basis. If there's any way to end this practice, please do so immediately.

More UDM on UWM
They went into a hostile stadium packed with screaming fans and played hard, played well, and hung in long after they were expected to. I couldn't come up with anything they did glaringly wrong, nothing that will haunt me for the next six months.
mhmhmhm hostile delicious
and heres a little tid bit from a UDM player on UDM. Give some insight to how to answer dude buddy who thinks Pearl got out coached.
Thank you 04-05 Titans for a nice season. You were frustratingly inconsistent at times, but in the end you showed real heart and nearly knocked off the heavy favorites for a right to dance.

1. at the cell anything associated with the other team that takes the court is a target. cheerleaders inclulded. we don't personally attack any of them (like a few at loyola did to our). i actually thought UDM's Cheerleaders were good. they were still on our court in our house. i dont boo cheerleaders every time, but i have no problem with booing them.
2. the band is also a fair target. from where i was their band sucked. i think its fun to cheer while their band is playing and trying to drown them out.
the only real reason not to boo at the cheerleaders and band is that is has no effect on what happens on the court, and is essentially uneffective. but it can be very very funny at times...(we had a good time with the UDM band and cheerleaders during the UDM-WSU game. some of them were even laughing)...but calling it classless is a bit of a stretch....ineffective, or irrevelant are better ways of describing it.

Their band did suck. I think their director had a fever and the only prescription was more cowbell. Their cheerleaders were pretty attractive for the most part. They shouldn't take booing so seriously. Afterall, the were on the road. Were we supposed to stand up and cheer for them? I guess one could applaud their performance and not the team they represent.

UDM's cheerleaders are hot i must say. there band they did blow pretty big donkey balls.
I loved the HUGE student section, it looked great from what i saw on TV and i just would like to see what it looked like when we all had our pom-pom things shaking, that must have looked pretty good (John Jay hook us up with some good pics, like you always do;D!). There were a few pricks in our section (jdbrew can attest to that) but for the most part i thought that everybody was real good, when ever anyone tried to start a "F**K Detriot" chant there were plenty of people around to drown it out with "U-W-M" so i thought that went real well. Booing the band and cheerleaders, eh, i know i didn't boo the cheerleaders jsut cuz they were pretty hot but the band that was bad, they deserved to get ragged on.
As far as Bruce leaving...............I really don't think it will happen (but of course you never know) and i really don't see how going to UMASS is a real step-up, ok they have great facilities there but going there right now would be a pretty latteral move for Bruce, if he is going to go anywhere i really hope it would be to a bigger school with bigger promise. Now i really don't think that any Big-Ten school is going to make an offer anytiem soon either (for many reasons, too long to get into here) so i'm betting we will see him pacing our sidelines again next year.

it's too bad we're doomed to speculate on what BP will do but it's the reality of our mid-major status. unless we make a major run in this tourney i doubt he leaves. a very strong reason being we'll have a senior-laden team next year coupled with a top 40 recruiting class... you think this year's been fun, just wait! so i imagine that's pretty attractive to him. again, should we go deep into the tourney that could change things as he'll be all over the national scene. but in the mean time, let's enjoy the ride and gladly risk national exposure of our coach by making a great run!
