We do have to give it up for Detroit. Those guys played their hearts out and gave us the biggest run for our money. Cotton is going to contend for POY next year...and Detroit is going to be a very tough team in the HL. They only had one or two seniors.
That had to be the hardest bus ride home for their players, coaches, and fans, but they should be proud. We all know how it felt from last year. But I won't feel bad for them next year when they come to the Cell or when we head to Calihan!

I agree, UD played a one heck of a game! They get props for an extremely hard fought game - from start to finish. I will admit, that I thought UWM would go on one of its pattented runs and put the Titans away, but they never let that happen. Conversely, UD was the one continually dishing out the blows. Like the first UD game in Milwaukee, they were able to control tempo - something that very few teams have been able to do this year. By doing this, they were able to get us out of our comfort zone and into theirs. It is no secret that when UWM doesn't score, they can't press, making it impossible for us to run, etc........you get the picture. UWM was forced to play UD's game - luckily for us, we "escaped" with a win. Couple of points on the game: Before anyone else brings it up, I think the officiating was HORRIBLE - both ways - the entire night. The lead official (Mike Sanzere) had a horrible game - extremely inconsistent.......not only between halves, but between trips down the court, and we all know what Lamar Simpson is like. Both teams were on the short end of the stick on many occassions, so I don't think either team benefitted. If anything, IMO UD benefitted due to the fact that given the calls, there was no "flow" or continuity in the game (i.e. halfcourt game) which played a bit more into UD's hands as opposed to the running/quick/fast style that UWM prefers. There is no doubt that Cotton is an amazing "raw" talent. UD's offence was give him the ball and let him go. In fact, if I were coaching him, I would have ran more isolation plays, 1-4 lows, overloads, etc. for him and let him go to town. However, although he has a ton of "raw" talent, he clearly doesn't really understand the game the way that some of the other "greats" do. In other words, at this point in his career, he may have as much raw talent as Philips or Green (recent UD greats for those newbies out there ), but those guys would have NEVER shot the ball so quickly towards the end of the game. On two seperate occasions, BC went one on one and shot the ball 10 seconds into the shot clock - when UD was up by 4 with less than 2 minutes to go. Those types of plays lose games, plain and simple. BC can/could get pretty much any shot he wanted, whenever he wanted........towards the end of the game, I wanted him to get the ball because I knew that a). he would shoot quick and b.) I knew he would force up a tough shot that was contested........either way, UWM would get the ball back, and that is exact opposite of what Perry wanted. Overall, great game by both teams! On the flip side, give big props to our guys for not only winning, but winning the way they did. They had to dig, claw, fight the entire game, and were able withstand several blows by UD, all while not being able to really get into "thier" game. Great teams win ugly, and this was definitely ugly - you connect the dots!

our perimeter game kept us in it. Boo davis, even though hes streaky at times and is not 100% accurate he still hit some important 3 pointers last night keeping the panthers with in striking distance. I think next year with bredan belle coming on, UDM will be a tough team. Their philosphy to the game is a great credit to why college basketball is great.
the match up will be great to see in the future. i was really impressed with their turn over play. scoring 18 points off turn overs. detriot is a very patient team and strikes hardest in the paint.

Brandon Bell and Brandon Cotton will no doubt make for quite the backcourt at UD. It will be interesting to see if Perry still decides to play the methodical type of ball that he is known for, or if he will turn those guys loose a bit. Both are extremely quick and will create matchup issues for many teams. Given teh size of both Bell and Cotton, I have to think that Perry will be inclined to speed the game up a bit......but who knows. Anyway you slice it, UD is going to be a team that contends for the next several years.

UDM played a hell of a game...Gotta give em credit..
I thought for sure we would come out and take it to them but they hit shots when they needed to..
Way to go UWM to get a tough win and build a lot of character on your team when it counts most...Stay hot going into the tourney boys
