Which would be better?
A spot in the NCAA dance or a NIT match up where UWM plays MU?
I think each has points that make it exciting for the panthers.

NCAA tournament............No question.
EVEN IF we somehow got paired up with MU, it would be a tough situation for us - in that if we win, I can already hear people saying "we didn't have Diener", and if we lose, same thing ........ "we didn't have Diener." Don't get me wrong, I would love to play MU - and win, but at this point, I think we have bigger things to worry about.

Hands down-its Ncaa tourney.
Beating Marquette does little in comparison to going to the tourney where millions of little kids fill out our name as being an upset in the underground tourney pools they run in grade schools these days. Most of them don't know what NIT is, let alone watch it.
The goal is to have some kid in Kentucky wearing a Panthers shirt to school not having Mark Belling proclaim that he was right by saying the Panthers would win. I'm starting to think we'd be the only ones who care if we did beat marquette.

No offense, but that's a stupid question.
For UWM, NIT means that we failed to get the job done.
The only option at this point, to avoid disappointment, is an NCAA bid.

I don't think NIT is a failure.
I remember when Al McGuire, the man himself, put MU into the NIT instead of the NCAA because he felt the team could do more damage and grow as a program. Seemed stupid at the time but in the long run it did improve the program.
If we go into the NCAA as a 13 or 14, which some predict. That would be bad. Potentially it could be a one an out. The more we play the better.
No one is impressed with the holy crosses of the world and valpo's program has not made the next step.
No the NIT is not failure.

this question really isn't even close... the NCAA tourney! reaching the NIT is by no means failure, especially for a program that hadn't even gone to the NIT until a year ago. any post season exposure for us is good. however this year, all signs and all hopes point to the NCAA. this is where everyone wants to be and it's where we should be no matter what seed we get. to not get there this year would be a major, major dissapointment. this team this year has a chance to be special, and that means making noise in the NCAA tourney, not beating a mediocre MU team in the NIT.
i know we'll all be behind this team no matter where they go in the post season, but let's not kid ourselves... in all our hearts it's the Big Dance or Bust!

There is a night and day difference between the NIT today, and the NIT when Al declined the NCAA bid to play in it. At that time, it was not thought as a second fiddle/little brother type tournament......don't get me wrong, any post season play for UWM is great, but to try and rationalize that the NIT is anywhere near as quality of a tournament as the NCAA is, is just crazy!

The money that our program would make by getting into the NCAA is far beyond what we'd get by going deep into the NIT to me either way a post season is somewhat of a success. But with as weak as the conference has been this year its either NCAA or bust

Mid-majors on the rise are happy going to the NIT.....nobody here will settle for that, even if it means pairing up with the Warriors. Playing them would mean something for some people's personal satisfaction, but nobody around here sets that as our goal.
The measuring stick need not be MU; the measuring stick to our success does not include gaining that institutions nor their fan bases' approval....

I remember when Al McGuire, the man himself, put MU into the NIT instead of the NCAA because he felt the team could do more damage and grow as a program. Seemed stupid at the time but in the long run it did improve the program. McGuire opted for the NIT because the NCAA sent the Warriors to the West Regional and he thought it was total injustice. For the record, these are all smart responses. Under no circumstances should any fan ever root to go to the NIT...ever!

I dont get when u say that all the games we play help, do u mean team chemistry? because if that is what u mean i disagree. we only have ED the rest of this year and we cant start playing with our new recruits yet. so they will never get to play more together after this season anyways, therefore more games will not help them. and if u ment that it would be good for more exposier for our team, it is still a bad route to go. the NCAA tourney is the only place i want to see uwm this year. anything short would defenitly dissapoint me. personally marquette never even crossed my mind, im way to excited to see who else we might be playing in the tourney. (who cares about marquette! : go panthers!!!!!!!

End this thread.....NCAA all the way, not even an option...
Teams dont get known from making it to the NIT...Gonzaga did not make a name for themselves and recruits by making it to the NCAAs...
Although I would love to just hand it to MU on a silver platter and say f*** yourselves..Those conceited bastards think they are better than everyone
