I recently received a Christmas card from the UWM Athletic Department, featuring a picture from last year's Horizon League championship crowd.
Inside was a voucher for four free tickets to the Jan. 3 game vs. Detroit or Jan. 8 game vs. Loyola.
Even though I'm a ticketholder already, I was able to distribute the four tickets to the Detroit game rather quickly to co-workers.
More promotions and goodwill like this are needed in the future.

That is a great thing! I always wondered why they didn't give away more tickets (i.e. mailings, groups, radio promotions, contests, etc.). Many of the people that would get these types of tickets would not otherwise go to a UWM game........maybe they will have a good time and return - not to mention that they may likely buy concessions, so I don't think it is a "loss". just my $0.02. Wait a minute, what I just described resembles what UIC does....... haha j/k To be honest, I don't think giving some tickets to a school district/schools/groups, etc. would be a terrible idea.

Plus, it beats having 5,000 blue seats disguised as fans. Although it does worry me that these tickets may have only gone out to season ticket holders ... which is kinda like preaching to the choir.

I agree with you regarding sending them out to season ticket holders, but it is at least a start. Maybe they figured that the season ticket holders were going anyways and they would give them to people who may be interested enough to go when given a free ticket. To be honest, I don't know how you would start giving tickets out..........I don't think randomly mailing them out is a good idea, at least this way they are in the hands of UWM fans to distribute. I agree, there probably is a better way, I just don't know what it is. Also, the more blue we can cover up at the Cell the better........no matter who is in the seats - at least for the time being, until UWM is a tough ticket to get.

I also received the voucher. I gave them to a guy I know who will definitely take his 3 sons to the Loyola game.
Giving them to season ticket holders makes sense, because this way the athletic dept. knows they are in the hands of people who care about the program. There's no sense in giving away free tickets if they don't get used.
I would also like to see us give some tickets to radio stations. I see no reason why AM 1510 couldn't be giving away 10-12 tickets a week to the "15th caller" or something like that. With a new all sports station coming in January, we could do the same with them.
