• About Kansas
The Jayhawks moved to 7-0 with a 64-60 win over South Carolina Saturday night in Lawrence. It was their lowest margin of victory in a game this season. Kansas opened the season as the top-ranked team in the country before falling to number two after a tight, season-opening win over Vermont. The Jayhawks are a veteran club led by seniors Wayne Simien, Keith Langford and Aaron Miles. Kansas, which reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last year, will be playing its first game outside of Lawrence this season in Wednesday's contest. The Jayhawks do not have a true road contest until a Jan. 9 date at Kentucky.

Simien sidelined again KU senior out 4-6 weeks after surgery on thumb
By Gary Bedore, Assistant Sports Editor
Tuesday, December 21, 2004
Wayne Simien's senior season at Kansas University will not be injury free.
Simien, who missed five games his freshman season, 22 his sophomore year and one his junior campaign, will be out four to six weeks following surgery Monday to repair a ligament pulled away from the bone in his left thumb.
"We all feel for Wayne," KU basketball coach Bill Self said Monday night. "After visiting with Wayne, his family and all the doctors who have seen him, I strongly encouraged Wayne to go through the procedure.
"We believe having Wayne at 100 percent the final two months of the season is far better than having him 60 to 70 percent. We certainly feel like this is the best thing. We won't look back, and we'll spin it into a positive."

KU's Simien out four to six weeksThumb surgery benches forward
By JASON KING
The Kansas City Star
LAWRENCE — Successful as he's been on the court, there's one thing forward Wayne Simien hasn't been able to do during his illustrious career at Kansas: Stay healthy.
Jayhawks coach Bill Self announced Monday that Simien would miss the next four to six weeks of action because of an injury to his left thumb. Simien, who leads KU in both scoring and rebounding, underwent surgery Monday evening to repair a ligament that Self said had “ripped away from the bone.”
“He could've played in a splint or small cast,” Self said. “But Wayne at 75 percent is not where we want Wayne to be, and it's not where he wants to be. The kid has played with so many nagging things, he deserves to finish his senior year healthy.”
