I just wanted to throw this topic out there to get everybody's opinion on this topic. I was thinking about it after I watched the Santa Clara vs. Gonzaga game last night. In case you didn't see it, the game was a SEMI-Final game being played at Santa Clara (the team hosting the tourney). Anyway, Gonzaga didn't play well and ended up winning by 1 on a tip-in with 6 seconds left. After SC missed a 3 to win, the Gonzaga fans stormed the court. WTF, Gonzaga is the #4 team in the nation and they rush the floor against a team they beat by 16 the previous 2 times they played in the conference season. I would have been pissed if I was a SC fan, I think that was a pretty Bush League move by the Zags fans. Some of the Zags fans were taunting the Santa Clara fans, the security was pretty good and no fights broke out. This brings me to my point, do people think it will be OK if by some chance UIC wins and their fans storm the court. I doubt Santa Clara and Gonzaga has the hatred that our game will have. Personally, I am not for allowing other people to storm your Home Court not matter what the game situation is, hey but thats just my $0.02. Tell me what you guys think.

Storming the court has been played out so many times this season it's ridiculous. It's almost like the new version of "the wave" or YMCA.
It should be saved for two situations -- conference tournament championships (i.e. UWM last season) or miraculous endings (i.e. Stanford a few weeks ago, the pileup that Tiger Woods was in).
Honestly, and I may take a few shots for this but it's my opinion, I thought it looked stupid when UWM fans rushed the court against Cleveland State ... a game which UWM won by 20+ and already had clinched the league title and No. 1 seed. Sure you could've gone out on the court afterwards, but rush it? Not really necessary.
With that said, UIC fans should be able to rush the court if they have the ability to ... if they have a section for them on the baseline. If they don't, no they shouldn't because it would be a safety hazard to rush from the 200 and 300 level.

Let's get down to business and talk a little strategy. We must box out and secure rebounds to win this game. I hope the refs have to courage to call over the back because UIC will be crashing the boards and going after everything, regardless of who is in their way. They have great athletes, but if we put bodies on people we can hold our own on the glass. I hope Ed doesn't get exhausted chasing Banks all over the place. We have to keep fresh guys on him. That being said, I hope we make Banks work on defense. We need to be solid at the line because UIC can be shaky there. I feel good every time I look at their bench and see Jimmy "Shoebox" Collins making decisions for them. Coach Pearl will coach circles around him, again. I'm counting on the students to get into and stay into the heads of Bailey, Banks, etc. GO PANTHERS!

If UIC is good enough to win the game then their fans have every right to storm the court...as hard as that would be to take. If the roles were reversed you better believe we would storm the court down at UIC.

Somewhat off topic, but was the rumor true last year about one of our cheerleaders being injured last year when we stormed the court? Also, I recall a high school basketball star recently getting tackled during a court storming and was paralyzed. Not to say I'm against it, but we gotta use our head in the situations. As stated previous, you have to know when the right time is to do it otherwise it losed the novelty and priviledge to do it. Also, you have to keep contained until the game truley is over. In reference to the Gonzaga game, there would be nothing worse than for a teams fans to prematurely rush only to be beaten by a last second tip!

Gonzaga is having their best season in School History, ranked #3, 4 in the country, so for the Zags fans to storm the court after another big victory, was somewhat in line, though I would not have. Have to cut them some slack, although SC was what? The 150th RPI team in the country?....
