Interesting.
I didn't know Steve Hoelzel transferred in from Michigan Tech. Nice to see another big man in the fold.

Hoelzel effectively takes the place of Adam Finley, who left for academic reasons. It's not what you think: Adam is very school-motivated and elected to go somewhere to concentrate on academics exclusively. I hear it might be Northwestern or possibly the U of Chicago.

I hear it might be Northwestern or possibly the U of Chicago. U of Chicago is no joke academically! Any word on if he would try to play if he went to U of C? To be honest, I don't know what shape their bball program is in now, but it was pretty good in the mid to late 90's (had a buddy who played there).

interesting that hoelzel is transferring from michigan tech. i'm a uwm grad and am glad to see him come here, but also a little disappointed because i have ties to the mtu program. he redshirted last year and i'm a little confused by why he decided to transfer here. michigan tech will probably be ranked top 5 in the country in preseason polls this year and has a great chance to win a national title. plus, it's a class program all the way around with great people and great academics, maybe too good for some guys i don't know what his financial situation is, but he's giving up a scholarship to be a walk-on here? granted, he could eventually earn a scholarship.

by the way....anyone remember when michigan tech came down to play us....i believe during bo's first year here? mtu was without their two best players (one a future first-team all-american) and still hung tough. of course, there were only about 1,500 people there that night, being generous

With the roster for the coming season now intact, I was just wondering what you guys thought about this collection of players (realizing, of course, that chemistry counts for a lot). Knowing who the non-conference opponents are (Kansas, Wisconsin, Purdue, Manhattan, St. Louis, Valparaiso, Air Force, Parkside, Prairie View, South Dakota St. and the Bracket Buster), what is a realistic record for this group? Is this a stronger or weaker group than last year, or is it similar? Discuss.

As much as I want to say that Ed and Joah's improvements will be enough to carry us, I can't say a Dylan-less team is better. I don't see the post scorer nor the steady pg that KK was. I had a good feeling about Passley and look where that got us... I'd be pleased with 5-6 wins out of those 11. But seriously, the thing that matters is the conference tourney. Send us to the Dance for 2 out of the last 3 and we're lookin solid to recruits. A win against a Purdue or a close game against kansas will make us feel good about our boys, and give us something to talk about at houseparties, but conf. tourney is where we have the hole shot.
