What does everyone think the starting 5 will be come next season? I know we return 4 starters, but does anyone think that any of the new recruits(Anderson, Young, Messiah) will push/take a starting job from another? Also, who from the bench will get good PT? I see it as this: small: BIG: PG- Hill PG- Hill SG- Young SG- Davis SF- Davis SF- Tucker PF-Tucker PF- Tigert C- Tigert C- Ford/ McCoy

its not a bad topic, its the weekend. this site's traffic slows down a lot on weekends. it should pick up more once monday roles around. don't feel bad if a topic doesn't really catch on, no one wins everytime.

It's just way too early to tell, though I doubt that J-Mac starts next season. A more likely scenario would have either Ford at center, Young at a third guard or Massiah at a second forward. Like I said, Rob has to see them practice first.

It's interesting that Joah Tucker is the only player recruited by Bruce Pearl who is assured a starting spot. I expect Boo to join him, but unless a third BP recruit makes the starting lineup, the 2004-05 season could be the only one in which the majority of UWM's starters are BP recruits.

Ghola, besides Young who would be the 4th non-BP recruit starting? everyone else but tigert and hill were BP recruits and i don't see Kaylan Anderson starting. if davis doesn't start does anyone think ford might? but yeah its too early to really tell.

read it again dude - I expect at least two BP recruits - Boo and Joah - to start.
That means that If two more spots go to Hill and Tigert who were both recruited by Jeter/Ryan, that will leave one spot open for either another Pearl recruit or for one of Jeter's new players. Ford or McCoy could start and ensure that BP's recruits make up the majority of the starting 5 for a second year, but if Young is the player he's been made out to be, he'll probably start alongside Boo in a three guard set. That would give us Hanson, Anderson, Massiah, McCoy, Ford and Pancrantz to contribute off the bench, which sounds solid.

At this time, I would be shocked if Hill, Davis, Tucker, and Tigert are not starting in November. Given how the team develops, I think you will see one of two lineups:
1. With Ford at center, in a traditional 2 guard, 2 forward, 1 center lineup
2. With Young at the 3rd guard, in a lineup similiar to last year's. 3 guards, 2 forwards, no "true" center.

I also do not see Jason McCoy starting. IMO, his most value is as a bench player getting significant minutes. I wonder if he can hold up all season getting starters minutes.

I disagree. Jason makes the perfect starter. Now he may not start bc Jeter runs a radical system of basically but in the world of college hoops Jason is your man. He deserves mins bc the guy just sees the court. and when i mean court i mean the passing lanes. The guy is like white on rice when it comes to defending. He would have to play the guard combo forward. Where he switches in an out of the arch not to make huge dunks but to stretch the defense. but then again, it is way way too early to pick a starting five. but based on previous performance and the type of player he is in the Milwaukee system of basketball i would choose him. and maybe even Jeter will pick him. But im sure we will have to wait till after practice.

I agree 100% that Jason can defend and rebound, not to mention he brings an "engegy" to the game when he is in - not unlike what James did when he came off the bench. However, Jason is somewhat of an offensive liability. We need our 3 (if he plays there, as was suggested) to score, or at least be a threat to score.

true, Jason does not produce and most likely would not produce very much offense in the 3. In fact i bet most of his points would come from tip in's and dunk. But I just got a feeling about that guy. The work ethic he put in this year just to find some time on the floor shows me that i bet if he put that energy into learning how to score more effective on the offense he would be a great weapon. Either way, Bench or starter Jason will contribute a great deal to this team in 2005.

mccoy really isn't a starter. he's a great bench guy. i agree with the comparison to wright. he brings good d, good rebounding, fantastic energy, and an occasional clean up hoop. he'd have to improve his offense dramatically over the summer to be considered a starter.

i agree that the best place for McCoy right now would still be as the sixth man on our team, unless there is some major change to his offensive arsenal this summer, but i kinda don't see that happening, plus i like McCoy being our #1 man off the bench to help out with the energy as well.
