Nampa, Idaho - For all the Panther-philes and Marquette nation members who have been rolling tape of a UW-Milwaukee vs. Marquette NIT matchup in their minds for weeks, this just in from Idaho:
Never mind.
Maybe next year or the year after or perhaps three years down the road. But probably not.
Boise State, a place where they don't know a bratwurst from a chorizo, threw a wet blanket on Milwaukee's plans for the greatest game that never was. The Broncos shredded UW-Milwaukee's vaunted interior defense, sending the Panthers to a 73-70 defeat in a first-round National Invitation Tournament game Saturday night at the Idaho Center.
The Panthers (20-11) didn't die easily. Trailing by as many 16 points at 53-37 midway through the second half, they cut Boise State's lead to one, 71-70, on Ed McCants' three-pointer with 29.9 seconds left.
Coby Karl, the son of former Milwaukee Bucks coach George Karl, drove home the dagger, hitting a pair of free throw with 13.2 seconds left.
