From the Journal Sentinal WEDNESDAY, Jan. 25, 2006, 3:06 p.m. MPS threatens to ban basketball spectators
What if there was a high school basketball game and no fans or supporters were allowed to attend?
That possibility was raised today by Milwaukee Public Schools Supt. William Andrekopoulos, who laid out new plans for trying to control rambunctious behavior at high school games.
The plans include limiting ticket sales for games to 75% capacity of the gym; limiting tickets to two per person and selling tickets only prior to game day.
Additionally, no cell phones, music players, or pagers will be allowed in the gym. These rules apply to all high school basketball games, boys and girls, at all levels of play.
In a letter to all MPS high school parents, Andrekopoulos said if troubling incidents continue at games, the district might take even stronger steps, like moving games to Saturday afternoons, raising ticket prices, or “the possibility of barring spectators from the games. We are serious about safety,” he said.
The restrictions follow disturbances at games over the past two weeks.

Eh...this will cause trouble outside. Also people will buy tickets before the game and scalp...
I know this for a fact, cause I went to Riverside, and when played Marshall my freshman year there was a huge fight outside...shots were fired no one got hurt.
Also, when we played King...oh yea you bought 2 tickets one for you and one for the kid who would be outside and would be willing to pay 5 to 10 dollars to get in(normally $3).
Oh good times being a graduate of MPS.

yes as a king grad i do recall buying scalped tickets esp. to our tiny gym (seats 800 max). ahhh what i would do to watch us beat up riverside -sigh- (insert nostalgic glow).
marshall always has problems, they should just not be allowed to host and spare the other schools of this ridiculous ban. i mean there are metal detecors its almost like going to the airport, the only way guns got in is cause they were allowed in, i just dont see how its possible.
how much would that hurt recruiting from mps if no one can go?

the good old King/Riverside game....we win in football, you'd whoop us in Basketball, but we out swim ya too.
I think recruiting coaches and "scouts" would be allowed in, cause they wouldnt be cauing trouble.

I've always been interested in the MPS rivalries, but being the Suburban/Greater Metro Con kid that I am, I never was educated. The only thing I knew about MPS is that they should take Marquette HS from the GMC, because that sh*t with them in the top 3 in every sport is seriously annoying...and they're pompous douchebags too.

we really only had a rivalry w/ vincent in bball, all their other sports were more or less jokes. i would say riverside was our main rival in all sports. washington in football (until half their team was claimed academically inelligable) and bball, south only in soccer, hamilton only in baseball, tech in baseball.
king had some rivalries with suburban schools also. the biggest being tosa east, we played em in football 3 out of my 4 years and we always ended up meeting them in sectionals for bball. i remember losing to devon harris in his senior year. those were the only mens games i saw in the klotsche.
