Anybody have any thoughts on the format for the Journal-Sentinel's prep sports season previews? I see that for the fall sports, they stuck with the same format as last season - two conferences a day for each sport. A couple of years ago they did a pull out section for prep basketball that I thought was great and I'd love to see a return to that format, which included recruiting articles, player profiles and complete schedules. I can't imagine why they changed, because the old way produced a really top notch product.

The Journal Sentinel is following an industry trend.
Most newspapers across the country used to run special pullout sections to preview the prep seasons. Those sections are driven largely by advertising dollars, which we all know have been tough to come by in the newspaper industry due to the Internet (which have caused circulation numbers to lower).
Now, very few newspapers have these anymore. Maybe in Texas they are still big ... but as a whole, most are doing the same thing the JS is doing.
I miss the pullout sections too ... but don't see any time in the near future where they make a comeback for prep sports, which basically only has a niche audience.
