They look so stupid right now. they now have a self proclaimed 'weak' and 'unoriginal' nickname. the fans at away games are gonna have a hell of a time when they play marquette. im suprised by a few things.
1. that the voting was so close 2. that so few people voted.
but hey thats there problem and its funny to me. i wonder if they are gonna make a new eagle or just stick with the old one? what happens to that beautiful new monogram they introduced when the 'gold' nickname?

funny quote from the js article:
"Oddly, the greater Marquette community had expressed no particular affection for Golden Eagles last fall. In a university-sponsored survey, the terms most respondents used to describe the Golden Eagles nickname were boring (57%), weak (55%) and common (52%).
Boring though it may be, it will be the school's nickname."
-boring indeed. oh well, go PANTHERS!

ESPN analyst decides against coaching return
The full-court press put on by ESPN was apparently too much to pass up for Fran Fraschilla.
Three days after emerging as the replacement for recently resigned assistant basketball coach Jeff Strohm, Fraschilla decided against coming to Marquette University, coach Tom Crean said Sunday.
Fraschilla had been scheduled to be introduced as the newest addition to Crean's staff on Friday. But ESPN, Fraschilla's current employer, made a strong push to keep him in his role as college basketball analyst, a job he has held since 2002. After taking the weekend to contemplate which path he wanted to take - Fraschilla has expressed an interest in returning to coaching - he chose TV.
Having served as a head coach at Manhattan, St. John's and New Mexico and spent 23 years in the college ranks altogether, Fraschilla figured to be a great hire for MU as it enters its inaugural season in the Big East Conference. He has also been a close friend of Crean's for many years.
"I understand it, and I've already moved on in the process," Crean said. "I don't know what the time frame's going to be. I'm definitely going to work on it over the next week, two weeks. I guess my target would be to have it done when we have our (recruiting) dead period, or at the latest in August."
