I'm interested in hearing more of the backstory about the Howard University students that attended the 1st round game against Detroit Mercy at the K. Prime seating was reserved for them behind the Panther bench. I read here and was subsequently told that generally, they enlivened the atmosphere in a way that was more visible and boisterous than Milwaukee students or the general fans.
To the extent this is true, kudos to whoever came up with the idea. I know they were in town to tutor young primary education students. I am not inquiring about that part of the story. I just want to focus on their attendance at the game.
Who's idea was it to reserve the prime section for them? Was it anticipated they would be so positively energetic? If so, was that the reason for the prime placement? Going forward, would anyone like to see more enthusiasm from our own fanbase like they reportedly displayed?
I would appreciate feedback from anyone on this topic but would especially like to hear from joetix, as I assume he has the most knowledge about it.
This topic also brings to light prior comments about certain visiting local fan bases. I vaguely recall the most recent one that I believe was last year. Was it the late Cardinal Stritch? There were some interesting comments about their lively, upbeat, self-led and organized cheering section. Just wondering how much desire there is for us to have a lot more of that within our own fanbase - students and/or non-students.

The Howard University students were amazing and entertaining to watch. They were like a Dance team in the stands. I suspect you would see the same energy at BB games in the City Conference

Coach Winston got the ball rolling on that one. One of the people he knows in the schools reached out and that's how the connection was made. The reserved seats behind the bench were for player and coach guests, but they spread out leaving those seats open. When the Howard U students arrived that was the perfect place to keep them all together. For them, it was something fun to do while on their spring break. For us, it added great energy.

Thanks Joe. I appreciate you regularly providing information like this which no one else on the message board is in position to do.
How cool it would be if eventually a group of 30+/- students could regularly contribute to that kind of front-and-center environment during at least our in session home games. That's all it would take out of 18,000 students, or whatever. Then celebrate that and help it grow organically from there.

Initially I was disappointed with those seats being reserved for non STHs. But once they got there, they brought life to the game. Glad they were able to have a good time and give us some sort of environment. It shouldn't be like pulling teeth to get students to cheer and dance at a game. It's unreal how bad our student body is. I'll be cheering for Howard U this week vs Wagner. Hope they can get that one at least.

Not sure why that is, but they're certainly not engaged in the event.

They were really energetic throughout the whole game and figured they'd easily make the Dance Cam during timeouts (couldn't help but to notice them especially being at the K and sitting just one section over); reminded me of the old Squad 6/now Jockey Crew at the Bucks games....
Need to bring them more often haha though the students were just as loud; missing the games already especially being so close to getting to the Big Dance...

Maybe we could somehow connect them with our disinterested, disenfranchised students.

Maybe we should be working to promote games among student organizations such as the black student union.

Can we replace Pump It Up with something like this pregame? May help Pump It Up is incredibly cheesy and perfect for a media timeout t-shirt toss. I would prefer it be the 12-minute or 8-minute media timeout, because the final media timeout should be all about actually pumping people up for the home stretch.

Well good thing it’s at the 8 minute timeout
