Congratulations to Oakland. They came into the tournament as the #1 seed and they showed why. At least the HL will have a reasonable seed at #14(?). A lot of you do not like him, but Greg Kampe deserves this one. Fresh blood. Was tired of Northern Kentucky, Wright State and Cleveland State) Absolutely. If it isn’t going to be us I’m glad it was Coach Kampe. Came right over after the game and shook hands with us. Let us know how much we impacted the game with our noise as well. If we have to be represented by any coach not named Bart Lundy in the tourney, I’m glad it is Coach Kampe.

I know this is right after the game...but seems he may be moving on? I would imagine he will explore all options which he should. Not trying to read into the tweet too much but.

Bart said in the radio postgame this was his toughest year as a head coach in his entire career. With all of the stuff that went on, I believe it. I hope he stays. He will take care of this season's shortcomings next year. In Bart I Trust. Talked to him after the Green Bay game. He told me the same thing about it being the toughest year he’s had coaching with all of the injuries we suffered. He also reiterated that he loves this job and he has no intentions of going elsewhere. He will be back. They all say they will stay when they are in the midst of a tournament run. I think the likelihood for next season is high. When he was hired, I thought three years of Bart would be good, and anything more would be a bonus. Anything less than three years would be a disappointment.

This was to be expected. Whether it is high major or pro league somewhere, he wants to go make his money now. I am afraid that we will not be able to pay him what it takes to stay at this point. It was a great two year run with him. He helped put a lot of eyes on our program nationally that we probably wouldn’t have had without him here. Hopefully that helps us continue to get solid recruits that will help us win a title in the near future. He gave his heart and soul to our program. We all owe it to him to respect whatever he chooses to do this offseason. He didn’t grow up with much, so it makes perfect sense that he would want to go secure his money when he can. I can’t blame him if he does and I’m certain none of you guys can either. Thank you 10.

I wouldn't read anything into a tweet sent out while the reality of the season's ending is still setting in. Having stated that, I have no concerns if he does leave. Reading between the lines, a player like BJ is what probably contributes to Lundy's comment that this was the most difficult season for him as a head coach. Also, in today's portal era, there will be plenty of talent to reel in. Look at what YSU did in replacing 90% of it's roster.

I truly believe he wants to build us up to be a perennial HL winner/contender for years to come. He has had a great start, and he will keep it going.

UWM has no answer for Oakland's Trey Townsend, falls in Horizon League Tournament title game Todd Rosiak Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
A magical run to the championship game of the Horizon League Tournament ended abruptly for the UW-Milwaukee Panthers on Tuesday night.
Trey Townsend saw to that.
The reigning player of the year in the conference, the 6-foot-8, 228-pound Townsend took the top-seeded Oakland Golden Grizzlies on his broad shoulders and dominated on both ends with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line.
He put up a monster line of 38 points, 11 rebounds and five assists while playing all 40 minutes in sending the sixth-seeded Panthers to an 83-76 loss at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.
UWM (20-15) entered having won six straight and eight of nine to get to advance to the conference tournament title game for the first time since 2017 and did almost enough to earn its first invitation to March Madness in a decade.
Erik Pratt scored 16 points, Kentrell Pullian 15, BJ Freeman 14 and Langston Wilson 10 and the Panthers actually shot a hair better from the floor than the Golden Grizzlies (43.9% to 43.5%).
But they hit only 4 of 19 three-pointers – 1 of 9 in the decisive second half – attempted two fewer free throws than Oakland made (14 for 19 vs. 21 for 27) and managed only two baskets over the final 4 minutes 25 seconds to seal their fate.
Eight straight points by Wilson and a driving layup by Elijah Jamison gave UWM a 64-60 lead with 6:15 remaining in the game.
Then it was Townsend time.
Beginning with a putback of a missed three-pointer by Pewaukee product Jack Gohlke, the senior forward rattled off 14 consecutive points of his own.
His jump hook with 2:33 left gave Oakland a 72-70 lead it wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way, and his life was made easier when Faizon Fields – UWM’s top interior presence – fouled out in the midst of his personal reign of terror.
The Panthers hung tough and got to within 74-72 on a fallaway jumper by Wilson at the 1:46 mark. But a Chris Conway putback of a rare Townsend miss made it a two-possession game and the Golden Grizzlies hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to put UWM away.
The three final makes came from Townsend, who then blocked a three-point attempt from Pratt on the other end for the final dagger as Oakland completed its season sweep of UWM, 3-0.
Townsend hit 12 of 22 shots and 14 of 18 free throws.
Gohlke finished with 15 points on 5-for-12 shooting from beyond the arc while Blake Lampman added 12 points and Conway 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Freeman had his run of 10 straight 20-point games halted after going 6 for 17 from the field, including 1 for 5 from beyond the arc, and 1 for 1 from the free-throw line.
He sat for a long stretch in the second half as first Pullian and then Wilson carried some of the scoring burden and logged 29 minutes in all -- just the second time since late January he failed to log at least 30.
Fields, who was so dominant inside with 16 points and 16 rebounds in the Panthers’ semifinal victory over Northern Kentucky, was saddled with two early fouls and limited to 8 minutes in the first half.
He finished with six points and six rebounds in 21 minutes against Oakland.
UWM leaned more heavily on Wilson and Aaron Franklin as a result and even tapped Darius Duffy and seldom-used freshman Simeon Murchison to try and combat Townsend and Conway.
Franklin in particular held his own despite giving up some height and also ended up as the Panthers’ third-leading scorer in the first half with six points in 16 minutes.
The scoring load was carried by Pratt (10 points) and Freeman (eight), with the latter setting a new Horizon League Tournament scoring record on a layup with 11:14 remaining. That basket gave him 95 points, breaking the previous mark of 93 set by Xavier’s Byron Larkin in 1987.
Oakland’s potent inside-out approach worked well early, but UWM remained within striking distance and took its first lead at 29-28 on a three-pointer from the top of the key by Pratt with 5:39 left.
But the Panthers were outscored, 9-4, the rest of the way and headed into the locker room at halftime trailing, 37-33.
UWM shot 46.7% to Oakland’s 45.2% and also enjoyed a slight edge in scoring in the paint, 18-16.

Think we get an invite to the cit or cbi? No, not with a 200+ NET. I would not be very thrilled about that, quite frankly. Last year multiple teams in the CBI were in the 200s, so we will see. USC Upstate was 255, Southern Indiana 257, Western Carolina 229, etc. I know the NIT has changed the auto bid rule this year, but if the CIT is back we may have a solid shot esp coming runner up in the tourney.

BJ Freeman set a tournament record with 95 points. Interesting who's record he broke. Barry Larkin of Xavier. Yes, that Barry Larkin, who we know as the great shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds.

Hoping Marquette has an early exit in the big East tournament to fall to a 3 seed because I would LOVE a Marquette vs Oakland 1st round matchup.

I know this is right after the game...but seems he may be moving on? I would imagine he will explore all options which he should. Not trying to read into the tweet too much but. I was actually shocked he came back for this year, given what he reportedly had been offered. That speaks highly to the relationships the staff made with him. They all say they will stay when they are in the midst of a tournament run. I think the likelihood for next season is high. When he was hired, I thought three years of Bart would be good, and anything more would be a bonus. Anything less than three years would be a disappointment. Fair enough. I’d like to think I have a closer relationship with Bart and his staff than most though. I truly believe he wants to build us up to be a perennial HL winner/contender for years to come. He has had a great start, and he will keep it going. We've heard it before, as Cactus said. It's unfortunately the realities of being a mid-major. Bart doesn't know what might open up for him at this point, if anything. And your relationship with him may indeed be good, but most people looking for a job don't tell anyone they're even looking or mildly interested in leaving until they've found the job and accepted it. They continue to "toe the company line" with the "I love being here", "My roots are firmly planted", etc. I'm not saying you're wrong - only that I view any statements along these lines with a heavy dose of skepticism.

BJ leaving would be expected and I personally would not be mad about it. As others have stated, I was shocked he came back after hearing he was offered. But ALSO like others have said, with the portal now a days, we can sure reload

Good luck to BJ if he moves on. A UWM great for sure and one of the best we've had in the last decade. That would be a big loss, but if Faizon stays and we can pick up a couple good guys, I think we could be in the same position a year from now.

Tough loss, have to recruit our roster back now we return the best lineup in the league. BJ giveth BJ taketh. Most frustrating player of my 25 years of panther fandom. I know he was never gonna do it but shoulda rolled with the lineup without bj. Who has the plus minus from tonight. Pratt and KP were really good tonight sitting Kp for BJ late was a choice. The turnover down two by bj was backbreaking and really no answer for horizon league harden Townsend. Dude gets the best whistle in the league. No chance Bart leaves not sure where he would go that’s a better job. BJ could leave but does he really want to compete for minutes at a power 5. Should have heavy recruiting at the state tournament for the Thomas more kids this week. Gotta keep building I said all year it would come down to 3 games in March problem was we set ourselves up to need 4. Good season but has to leave a sour taste was a winnable game. 64 60 leading and we needed a stop and score and just didnt have it.
