I mean the stats are what they are we’ve been just as good if not better without and 9 of 22 and 2 of 9 from 3 isn’t exactly good efficiency. Atleast he didn’t turn the rock over a ton. If that’s really the takeaway you got please seek help. There are maybe 3-4 players better than BJ in the HL and you rather shir on him non stop.

What a tremendous win! I only wish that I had been there to see it, but the virus going around brought me to the emergency room all morning and bed rest the remainder of the day. There's still time for this team to come together IF EVERYONE is willing to buy in. My thought today is that we're all part of the same team, as Jimmy and others have said, and we're so fortunate to have the Panthers as OUR team and each other on this forum. Never, ever take any of this for granted.

Let's not forget about the big play KP made late in the game....on the NKU steal they had a solo break and KP hustled back and knocked it out of the guys hands. Kept us from going down 4 late. KP has played great this year.

I haven't had a chance to watch last night's game yet, but obviously they were one positive play away from being 2-9 against peer competition with BJ. I am reading here it took amazing shots from BJ to get the win (based on one post with four likes). In other words, it sounds like we needed BJ's inner Harlem Globetrotter to win last night, in addition to Gelo's game winning three. I assume we can all agree that usually, if eeking out a win relies on making a number of amazing shots rather than strategizing for easy ones, the chance of success will be much lower.
The Panthers are now 3-8 with BJ against peer competition versus 4-3 without. I will be the first to admit I do not know the technical aspects of basketball as much as some on here. So this next question is not meant to be rhetorical. It seeks legitimate answers, especially from the higher BB IQ guys here.
How is the team with BJ against peer competition only 3-8 versus 4-3 without? Any rationale explanation will be appreciated. Thanks.

As for BJ Freeman, it has been said he can be our best player and our worst player, and we saw that in the same game last night. In the first half, he came in and contributed well without scoring. At the end of the half, we saw the bad: a few bad turnovers, not so great defense, no more assists. He took a stupid shot before the half when we could have had the last shot (thankfully NKU returned the favor in the second half). In the second half, we saw the good, for the most part. Perhaps he tried to do too much, but there were times where he was our offense. Overall, he was definitely more good than bad last night.
I’m glad he’s on our team, but he is also probably our most frustrating player.

[quote author=" Cactus Panther" source="/post/176944/thread" timestamp="1708270708" How is the team with BJ against peer competition only 3-8 versus 4-3 without? Any rationale explanation will be appreciated. Thanks.[/quote] I will throw two theories out there: First, we have a talented team without BJ. KP, Pratt, and Fields have all stepped up at various points. We aren’t exactly Mercy without Antoine Davis when we are missing BJ Freeman. Even last year, there were times that KP or someone else would look like the best player on the team. Second, there is a luck factor. When a game goes to overtime, a single missed free throw could be the difference. The referee’s judgment on a block vs. a charge could be the difference. It’s not like the Panthers dominated games without BJ and got dominated with BJ (for the most part). We are 1-0 in OT games without BJ and 0-2 in OT games with him. Our wins against Cleveland State, UC Davis, and Robert Morris without BJ came down to the last shot, while our losses to Green Bay, St. Thomas, and Longwood definitely did not. Last night and PFW have been close wins with BJ, but other than that, our wins have been more decisive with him than without. Now, we also got crushed by Stetson, NKU, WSU, and Robert Morris with BJ, so luck isn’t the full reason, but the fact seems to remain that we won the very close games without BJ and lost a few with him.

According to the press conference I posted Lundy said BJ Freeman had a fever and hasn't played basketball in 5 days.
BJ Freeman's NBA three with 8 seconds left to end the 1st half just graze the rim and NKY nearly got a basket to close the half. I think plays like that hurts the team.
BJ three was big to go up 63-60. His steal and dunk was huge. BJ Freeman is best for the offense when he drives to the basket. It was needed if you look how many three point attempts the Panthers took. 63 shots. 36 were from three. Also, BJ was tied as the leading rebounder with 11. BJ also had 2 of the Panthers 4 steals. Playmaking like this helps the team.

Also, had a couple of offensive boards and a put back if I remember correctly. Would like if he did more of this and less settling for 3s...but as many have said this is not just him....most of CBB has went to chucking more 3s. Look at the Badgers downfall, when chucking and bricking 3s they have been losing (obvi not the only reason but).

Can't speak on the Badgers as I don't follow their games that closely with other teams and leagues in my interest at a higher interest level for me. Yet, looking at the box score and what I did see on TV, the Badgers took 63 shots, only 16 were from 3 versus Iowa. Defense was the issue at least on Saturday.

Anyone want to mention the 11 rebounds and 5 assists that Freeman had today? Some love to criticize his 3 point shooting and his defense but overall this was one of his best games of the season. Also getting to the free throw line 8 times and drawing fouls on NKU is nothing to look over either. The attention he draws makes the game on the offensive end easier for everyone else. I don’t understand how people think we’re better without him as he’s clearly a top player in this league.

Watching the replay of the final 30 seconds something needs to be said as some little is really huge.
1) In the play where Pratt missed the go ahead three and the Panthers got the offense board. BJ Freeman drove and got stripped. Easy break away basket where Kentrell Pullian stripped the ball of an easy lay up for NKY to go up by 4 points with 15.2 left.
2) NKY kept the ball after review. Easy inbound ball, blocked from behind by Kentrell Pullian block Warrick from behind.
3) 9 seconds left. Fields had the ball and Kentrell Pullian went from the top of the lane to in the paint to screen to get the game winner more of an open look.

His usage is extremely high if he didn’t have any assists it would even worse on his already jsut okay offensive rating. The main issue isn’t his cherry picking boards or the 5 assists lol. It’s the fact he literally doesn’t try at all on defense. We are a much much better defensive team without bj and the offense can be just as stagnant with him out there hoarding the ball. The talent is there it’s the bbiq side that causes him to just be a guy for us.

I’m not sure what cherry picking rebounding means but having 8 defensive rebounds against probably the most athletic front court in the HL shows me he is putting in effort on the defensive end. In a perfect world we’d have a true point guard and his usage would be lower but because of injury we don’t and we’re asking him to pretty much run the offense when that’s not his natural position. I guarantee you ask any coach in the HL and they’d rather play us without him.
