I think we actually created our own misfortune and genuine luck got us some wins this year. Take the game vs UC Davis with the JT game winner. They tried really hard to give that game away and I looked at the person i go to the games with and said, if they blow this im not coming back here for another game all year. Queue the batted ball out to JT and the game winner. Like I said really fun year but those are the type of game you need to seal away and take luck out of the question or youll be burned. We had an extremely young team this year that made a lot of youth mistakes. We had a team where the majority were unused to D1 and/or college ball altogether. The first half of the season, these guys were learning the nuances of the other players on the team. There may have been some luck involved in a couple of the games last year. I would actually expect a good amount of growth from maturity, the experience gained last year and the familiarity the teammates will have with the majority of other members of this team. I also believe that we may have seen some inexperience in the coaching staff show up in some scenarios last year, and would expect some better decision making and a better understanding of the team, conference and schedule. You're considering next year's performance won't change from this year's, but you should factor in improvements from experience, newfound familiarity with opponents, increased familiarity with teammates and maturity of both players and coaches. What I think people need to realize is that even with significant improvement from the entire main rotation...we could still have a major regression next year. There's a reason that margin of victory is almost always the best predictor of success. Winning a bunch of close games is not great coaching or great on court play, it's purely lucky. Being down by 20 consistently to bad teams before storming back is the same. And that's why we statistically showed as one of the luckiest teams in the entire country. Having a regression of that nature would be devastating to this program, to build momentum this past year only to go sub .500 or something would be a death knell. I can hear it now, "same old UWM" from all the people who may have been intrigued after this year and that would suck.

If some of you are doing NOTHING but spit negativity and cynicism about this team, WHY ARE YOU HERE??? Other than apparently gaslighting, just go somewhere else with your garbage. We don't need people masquerading as fans, only to keep wishing for the worst as some sick self-fulfilling prophecy.

I can hear it now, "same old UWM" from all the people who may have been intrigued after this year and that would suck. While you're correct in your statements, I'll say again that I expect the core of the players with a year of familiarity and chemistry should produce better results. The staff with a year of experience in the Horizon and/or D1 level, should know better what to expect, how the team reacts to different things and how to better coach to extract the best from the team. And the many players, having played either their first year in college or at the D1 level, should also know better what kind of things to expect and how to better themselves in both single-game situations and the season overall. We could certainly see a regression based on "luck factors" alone, but I expect we'll also see a more cohesive team with additional maturity and experience that I expect will cause the team to play at a higher level where luck doesn't factor into as many games. But none of this matters if we lose a few core pieces, so it's all moot until we see who sticks around and who is added to the roster.

Kumbaya my Lord, kumbayaaaa Kumbaya my Lord, kumbayaaaa Kumbaya my Lord, kumbayaaaa Oh Lord, kumbayaa... We make our own luck- AND we can invent our discord . We had a lucky, hard-fought '22-'23. '23-'24 is gonna be even better.

UWM board where you are not allowed to be negative, question the team or even be realistic at times as you will be attacked by the army of Kool-aid drinkers.

This is absolutely rich coming from the most obnoxious and foolish dude who was single-handedly responsible for ruining the in-game experience for dozens of season ticket holders and fans who sat around you to the point you had your seats revoked and the administration had to do damage control so there wasn't a mass exodus of support from everyone who was subjected to your presence at games. Everyone here treated it with kid gloves at the time (mostly because they likely didn't have to sit by your dumbass), but as far as I'm concerned (and literally every fan who sat near you, who all were like "hallelujah that dude is gone") you're the type of fan that is not needed for this team and program. Utterly clueless about basketball in general, and a totally immature clown who consistently behaved in a way that would be embarrassing for a high school freshman let alone a grown man (it was also not a one of incident, that was just the straw that finally broke the camel's back). Especially since afterwards you came on this board and acted like an innocent victim and some kind martyr who was relevant to the program.

I drink the Kool Aid, and I also respect others opinions who don’t. I think we have room in the Panthers fan club for both.

My fandom isnt a fickle thing, whether the team sucks or not im gonna support the program, but some of us call a spade a spade, and some people would be fine with Robbie Jeter as the coach still.

UWM board where you are not allowed to be negative, question the team or even be realistic at times as you will be attacked by the army of Kool-aid drinkers. Some people, especially ones like yourself, will always find a way to be cynical about the program. No matter how good we are, people like you and your posse always find ways to attempt to drag the program. It’ll never be good enough for you, so why spend time trying to please you? I get that the program wasn’t good for years before Bart and his staff came in but now we’re back on track to getting where we want to be, and that’s the big dance. People need to let go of the bad memories from the Baldwin era, this is a completely different era of ball for our program. I guess the hard part to understand for me is why always find something negative to say or play devil’s advocate when we just had our best season in a long time? Go ahead and call us “kool-aid drinkers” but at least we have faith and trust in the people that lead the program to take us where we need to be. You can call it “blind faith” but it’s based on results all of these coaches have had previously to coming to Milwaukee. It’s not faith just because they are our coaches, they’ve gotten results wherever they’ve gone, and they’ll continue to get it done here.

Specifically quote the parts of this thread that would qualify as gaslighting?

Quit this f***ing fighting. We JUST got past the division of the past 15 years, can we not start new ones for bullsh*t reasons?
I'm going to say a few things to no one in particular:
- Not everyone is going to say things you agree with. This doesn't mean they aren't committed to the program like you are.
- Being realistic isn't bad. This was a very lucky team this year, and recognizing their shortcomings isn't "spitting negativity."
- It wouldn't kill anyone to be positive once in awhile.
