Given the long benches coach has had, the fact that all the scholarships that will be graduating are from non-guards, the possibility that Howell may have played himself into a scholarship, and the general youth of the talent ahead of him at the guard position, I think it's highly possible Taylor moves on to greener pastures - at least for him. This is of course, dependent on what players "above him" on the depth chart, choose to enter the portal. I pay next to no attention to recruiting. Will the transfer portal make it easier to replace the bigs who will be moving on?

Will the transfer portal make it easier to replace the bigs who will be moving on? It should - if we're not able to sign guys in the more traditional method(s). But a concern is also who among us chooses to leave via the transfer portal. I'd like to think none, but I think in this day and age, that's probably a dream that won't come true.

Very bad on defense and his offense isnt there yet to make him playable.

So, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that he gets a scholarship next year. It also wouldn't surprise me to hear that he enters the portal.

It doesn't necessarily reflect actual talent level or who the coaches actually like. Especially when you're grabbing guys from all over low level D-1, D-2, JUCO, etc the variability of how good guys actually are will widely vary (like there's JUCO guys who can come in and immediately be all-conference, while you could get an all conference transfer from some other D-1 school who comes in and is completely unplayable). Division 1 is cutthroat, I'd expect certain guys to get their scholarships pulled if better options present themselves this off season, even in situations it seems totally unfair or in poor taste, it's just the reality of trying to compete.

That's true. It used to be that players kept their scholarship for four years unless they were kicked off the team for some infraction. But the players who wanted the ability to leave for whatever reason, forgot that it's a two way street. Produce or lose your scholarship to someone who will.

Looks like Diew is walking on per the JS article. So we had 4 scholarship players leave via eligibility or portal. We have 3 scholarships committed. So 1 left unless Howell gets the last? I assume that one is earmarked for a big.

That pretty much means Keon and/or Jalen then. Coach loves Gelo, so I don't think he is going anywhere.

GOP, I think that you're spot on, but this entire subject matter makes the OGs among us, of which I am among the top dogs, very uncomfortable. Welcome to '23!

Didn’t really get an opportunity this year when healthy and has more than one year of eligibility left. Milwaukee is Keon's 3rd school. Maybe some stability will help him. Not sure how the injury lingered for him all season. He definitely has potential to develop for us. Jalen was an inconsistent player for us though he basically carried us in the HL tournament semis. However, not sure what to do with him with only 1 year left. He is what he is at this point and doesn't necessarily fit what we do. If it were me, I'd take the chance on Keon over Jalen due to his ability to stretch the floor somewhat. But there are probably better players that fit what we do in the portal with both scholarships. Tough decisions.

If I’m not mistaken, Keon would have to sit out next year since this would be his second transfer. Jalen could be a grad transfer assuming he’s on track academically.
