Just got back from the girls' 2-0 victory at Valley Fields tonight. They did a stellar job, the second half was awesome.

It was a great game. I must admit I almost lost hope when they went up 2-0 but then we came roaring back. Perhaps changing the goalie for the second half wasn't the smartest move Louie ever made
But whatever it was that lit a fire under our guys, it was great. The atmosphere was fantastic with the largest crowd ever in UWM soccer history, 3,345. (95% of them were Panther fans) I don't think they could have fit another person in there with a shoe horn.
All in all a very fun evening and at just $5.00 it was the best entertainment bargain I've purchased in quite some time.

Great game. Great atmosphere. A few things bothered me, though.
1. UWM's defense made too many mistakes. In fact, neither of marquette's goals should have happened. That has been a huge problem with UWM giving up bad goals in the past. 2. Marquette's best players are all freshmen. That team is going to be scary in a few years. I really hope Jon Coleman can keep up the recruiting. 3. As much as I love Dale Weiler, I felt like he was dribbling too much in the 2nd half. Nevertheless, he is still my favorite player to watch.
Good things:
1. Martin Castro is a beast. I can't wait till he's leading the offense next year. 2. Thank god for Steve Bode and the rest of the UWM defense. Except for the minor problems I described above, they play extremely well together. 3. I was really glad Eric Mickschl got the start in goalie today. He's a great player. 4. The fan base today was incredible. If we could have even 1/3 of what we had today I'd be thrilled. 5. What a great game overall in terms of UWM vs. marquette. This really fueled the rivalry. 6. The Milwaukee Cup remains at Engelmann. 7. THE SAUSAGES WERE THERE. Awesome.
Bout it for now.

That... was... awesome.
That crowd was absolutely huge. I tell you what, it's not going to be hard to bring in recruits if anybody on the soccer program has video of this game. I'm very proud of our team and our community for making tonight so great.
My friends at MU are giving me crap because we rushed the field after beating what they admitted to being a crap team... but I think... considering the circumstances with Louis, it was fitting.

Marquette isn't very good this year, but they played extremely well tonight. I went to the Marquette/Depaul game last friday, and a completely different team was on the field tonight.

Marquette isn't very good this year, but they played extremely well tonight. I went to the Marquette/Depaul game last friday, and a completely different team was on the field tonight. I'm sure it had to do with their desire to win it for Bennet and because it's a big rivalry for them. And let's not forget that Bennet knows just about everything there is know about the Panthers. That undoubtedly helped too.

It helped, but that doesn't mean they can stop it UWM's attack style is very dangerous. Hence why we had 13 shots on target and 13 corner kicks.

Panthers use a head's up play to sink Golden Eagles By BOBBI ROQUEMORE broquemore@journalsentinel.com Posted: Sept. 13, 2006
Of the 34 times UW-Milwaukee and Marquette have confronted each other in men's soccer, probably none of them could compete with the significance of what took place Wednesday night at Engelmann Field. Advertisement 74697Soccer

It was a great atmosphere for all the students ... To say they played in a game of that magnitude and with that many people, not many can say that. That's NCAA style and an NCAA crowd and NCAA intensity.

UW-Milwaukee's Steve Sperl and Marquette's Bryan Dahlquist and battle for the ball.
After all, it was the first night game at Engelmann Field, with the grass sparkling under the newly installed lights. With 3,256 bodies in the stands, it was the largest crowd ever to witness a game at the site.
And of course, Louis Bennett made his return to UWM, only this time as a visitor.
But it paled in comparison to the memorable events of the game itself, a 3-2 UWM victory that allowed the Panthers to retain their grip on the sacred Milwaukee Cup.
The Panthers (3-4-0) scored three unanswered goals in the second half to topple the Golden Eagles (1-5-1).
Junior forward Andre Francois headed the game-winner following a corner kick from senior defender Craig Mallace inside the 80th minute.
It was Francois' first goal of the season, one he felt would come late in the game against Marquette.
"I talked to Adam Skalecki on the bench about scoring the game-winner right before I went in, and sure enough it came," he said.
But reaching that point was quite a difficult order for UWM.
On paper, UWM owned the first half. Yet it was Marquette that walked into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Golden Eagles sophomore midfielder Andy Gill notched his first goal of the season following a corner kick from senior defender Nathan Sabich inside the 42nd minute.
It was a stunning development in light of the fact that the Panthers had outshot the Golden Eagles, 13-5, in the period and had registered five more shots on goal.
Then junior defender Mike Carlson booted a goal to the deep left corner of the net in the 48th minute that left UWM down, 2-0.
But UWM never lost its aggressive edge, and it was finally able to get on the board in the 54th minute on a clear shot by Mallace that sailed past Marquette goalkeeper Marc Dettmann.
Less than three minutes later, UWM had tied the score, 2-2, as junior defender Steve Bode hit a 15-yard blast.
"It was a real gutsy performance by our guys," Panthers coach Jon Coleman said. "It's easy to bag it, down, 2-0, and maybe look for excuses, but they were persistent."
Indeed, it was an emotional night for Bennett, who faced the team he turned into a Horizon League powerhouse in his 10 years at UWM.
"I basically knew it would be what it was," Bennett said. "It was a great atmosphere for all the students. . . . To say they played in a game of that magnitude and with that many people, not many can say that. That's NCAA style and an NCAA crowd and NCAA intensity."
