www.soccerbuzz.com/2006rankings/rankings090406.htmReceiving votes in the poll this week and jumped from 11th to 5th in their NCAA region ranking. The Lady Panthers only loss so far is to defending national champ Portland at their place, 3-2. We made the NCAA tournament last year and beat Purdue in the 1st round on PK's. We also play ranked Marquette next Tuesday Sept. 12th at 7pm.

I know that UWM will be out in full force. Not only is this Marquette, the snobbish intracity rival that beat us last year in the tournament, the game is on a Tuesday night, when everyone is on campus.
I wouldn't be surprised if this game set a record for attendance at Englemann for a women's game. I'm almost certain Wednesday night's game will do that.
I talked to Erin Kreuser of the women's team, and they're looking forward to kicking Marquette back to Wells.

Not sure who's going to win but anyone who shows up at Englemann field for the game on Tuesday isn't going to see much :-) - it's a Marquette home game at Valley Fields.

Leave it to Lemke, the aspiring journalist, to get that most important fact wrong.

UWM/marquette will be a very good game. I'm guessing a 1-1 tie.

You called it. The women took down Marquette, 2-0, at Valley Fields! With the win, the Lady Panthers also take back the lead in the all-time series, 6-5-4. As a side note, I believe this now means Milwaukee owns a winning mark again in every mutual sport vs Marquette except basketball. And women's basketball is only trailing by one game, 19-20. Men's Soccer: Milwaukee leads 24-7-2 Women's Volleyball: Milwaukee leads 42-23 Men's b-ball: Marquette leads 6-0 (D-I only) Although harder to measure "head-to-head" records, both the Milwaukee men's Track & Field and the Cross Country teams also regularly best Marquette's, as has the Women's Track team lately. ;D

Ladies defeat #16 Missouri of the Big 12 conference, 1-0, at the Wisconsin Invitational in Madison today. No Box Score or recap yet, but it should be posted here shortly... uwmpanthers.cstv.com/sports/w-soccer/sched/wiml-w-soccer-sched.htmlThis caps a great week for the team. The ladies beat Marquette 2-0 at their place on Tuesday, and tied a Kentucky squad Friday that is ranked #5 in their NCAA region (and coming off wins over Michigan & Ohio St).

Moving closer to a national ranking... www.nscaa.com/SeniorResReg.php?it=219&dv=1&rg=Great_Lakeswww.soccerbuzz.com/2006rankings/rankings100206.htmThey might be in the deepest NCAA Region in the country when it comes to Top 25-quality teams. And with how bad inter-regional politics is in some college soccer polls, it often makes it harder to crack the Top 25 from the better regions. Case in point, UIC drops to 12, 12, 13 & 18 in the four men's polls this week from their loss to Bucky. They were in the top 10 in all four polls. Why the huge drop in that last poll (from 7th) It's the NSCAA poll, where there are unwritten rules stating how many teams each region can/must be ranked, including how many teams from other regions have to be ranked ahead of a 2nd or 3rd place team from another region. UIC was a victim of politics in falling 11 spots this week due to a single quality (Top 25) road loss by one goal. The other 3 polls proved this quite well.

The reason why UIC dropped is because they're in the Horizon League. If they were in the Pac 10 or ACC they would have lost at least 3 games by now. This is by no means a knock on UIC either; UWM would get thrashed in those conferences.

I disagree. UWM would get thrashed THIS year, but not in the previous 5 or 6. And UIC has done quite well against some of the best teams in the country this season, and on the road to boot. They would be at the top of just about any BCS league this year (save perhaps the ACC).
The main reason UIC had a huge drop in one poll (but not the other three) was, for the most part, due to the regional politics involved in that poll. They went from the #1 to #3 regional spot, therefore the two teams ahead of them automatically had to be put ahead of them in the national (Top 25) poll. Once you take into consideration other regions teams and so on, UIC was bumped all the way back to 18th. Their conference affiliation had nothing to do with it. When they were #1 in their region, they were ranked quite high. The other three men's polls all had them just as high only to drop them about half as many spots after their loss. Mind you, one of those three is also a highly respected coaches poll, and UIC only fell from 6th to 12th in it. Those other three polls don't need to worry about regional politics. So that's why.
