Nebraska Omaha (no hyphen) finished 17-11 last season. They were ineligible for the Summit League tourney because it was their first season in the league. It was their second season in Division 1.

Coash Motherwell is also an excellent recruiter, and now he's recruiting against the Panthers instead of for them.

Six games into the season, the Panthers are 2-4. That's not bad considering the the Panthers' leading three-point threat, Emily Decorah has been injured.
The Panther have averaged a little better than 70 points a game. Their defense, which Coach Rechliz said during the off-season would be a priority, has not developed as quickly as the offense. The Panthers have shot better at the free-throw line, which contributed to both wins.
The biggest positive I see so far is the improvement of Avyanna Young as an inside threat to compliment the outside shooting. Young did not shoot well last year, seeming to rush shots and to lack touch at the rim. She has managed to slow herself down, and has a couple of 20+ point games in recent play, along with some good outings rebounding. If she continues at this pace, she will make the outside game more effective.

All except the basketball part... It was frustrating, but the Panthers didn't have the players to overcome North Dakota's height advantage, and got killed on the boards. It was nice to see Emily Decorah on the court again. It may take her some time to get back to form, but the Panthers sorely missed her outside scoring. It will only help to get Decorah and the other injured players back.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
The Panthers went up to Green Bay today to play the Phoenix. This year's Phoenix squad is younger, and was 7-5 in non-league play, so they are beatable. But I still expected the Panthers to lose, as they had not beaten Green Bay since 2006.
The final was 75-64, Panthers. 75-64, Panthers. Not only did the Panthers win in Green Bay, they won by 11. As they did in their last game, another road victory against Nebraska-Omaha, the Panthers totally outplayed their opponents in the second half, turning a 9 point halftime deficit into an 11 point margin of victory. The Panthers held leads as high as 14 points. More importantly, when a Phoenix run cut the lead to six, the Panthers had an answer, pushing the lead back to double digits. They held on, hitting enough free throws at the end to keep the Phoenix at bay.
Angela Rodriguez led the way with 23 points and 8 assists. Ashley Green contributed 15 points, and Avyanna Young added a double-double. Scott Warras kept saying. "Wow!" during the broadcast. i can't think of a better way to sum up this game.
