dylanrocks- I agree with you. Did you read my article (that was my Sunday morning, I hope somebody actually read it! )? Scapegoat? Yes. As guilty as sin as the other 100 coaches currently doing the same kinds of things? Yes. Some blame has to be placed at the office door of the NCAA. As much as I enjoyed our 2003 run and 2005 Sweet 16... I think Milwaukee's best days in March are ahead of us..

This is why I am glad we have Rob Jeter.
That will never happen with him at the top.
In Jeter I trust.

Did you read my article (that was my Sunday morning, I hope somebody actually read it! )? "And it's because of Jeter's rebuilding of the program the right way that is at least partly to "blame" for our 4 years without a post-season. Though difficult to see much progress when reconstruction began, last season's 20-14 finish certainly marked the cementing of the Milwaukee Panther program's foundation. Over these past 5 arduous years Jeter and his staff have quietly (and ethically) recruited and assembled one of the most impressive rosters (and high-caliber-students/high-character people) in this program's history." Excellent paragraph, vic. Could not agree more.

This is why I am glad we have Rob Jeter. That will never happen with him at the top. In Jeter I trust. Absolutely. I blindly adored Bruce when he was coaching our team for his personable attitude and ability to win. Since he left, and essentially turned his back on the program, my admiration for his abilities has faded. If this is truly the real Bruce Pearl, and I don't doubt that it is, then I don't feel sorry for him. He was quick to turn his back on our university, and I feel no remorse returning the favor. In Jeter I trust...

Different coaches have different strengths. Bruce obviously was a good coach with a great gift for promoting the program. Nevertheless, some of us were relieved when he moved on. It's not that there's any reason to believe he cheated while he was here. He took a great core of players from Bo and Ric (Clay, Dylan, Chris, AT, Justin, Ronnie, etc.) and supplemented them with some very talented guys like Joah, Ed and Boo and he coached them well. The concern with Bruce was that with his personality his ambition might tend to overcome his judgment. That's obviously what happened at UT, and many of us saw the signs that it could happen here, too, if he had stayed.
There's no reason not to stay proud of the team's accomplishments during his tenure, but in the long term I think people will look back and see the days that he left and that Rob was hired were good days for the program.

Why should I feel betrayed by Pearl for earning his way back into high-major college basketball, taking significantly more money than we were ever able to offer, coaching in a highly-competitive, high-caliber conference, and having a far more legitimate opportunity at a national championship year after year?

You shouldn't.

I guess this all goes to show (if you didn't think it already) that we were a stepping stone for Bruce and nothing more. Yea, he did an amazing job here and brought us back out of relative obscurity, but it was nothing more than a move for him. College Bball is just as dirty as College Football. Lets just face that fact.
Bruce's issues hopefully wont come back to bite MKE in the butt, and frankly they are his issues at UT now. So it's kinda a whatever feeling now.

Just talking to Coach Jeter and the guys on his staff, I'm 99.999% confident nothing like this would ever happen with them.

The truth is, significant cheating is both harder to do and less useful at a mid-major. We're not really competing for the kids who are perceived (by others or by themselves) as good enough to have their hands out, or to have "handlers" hanging around them. To be honest, it's one of the reasons I love being a mid-major fan. It's more like college sports used to be; coaching and team building are more important than knowing which summer coach's butt you have to kiss. Recruiting itself is just as important, but it's recruiting that requires a much more diligent analysis of a kid's character and potential.
When was the last time you heard of a recruiting scandal at a Horizon League school? There's a reason for that.

And it's because the NCAA isn't looking.
