Jeez...I wish we had about 20 scholarships to give this year....
I have to think there's a spot on anybody's roster for a player like Haarsma...

"how far are you guys from Kenosha?"
About a half hour away.

Anybody know what his grades are like?? Kaylon must have played with him for a year, that might help if we get involved. I liked his game in high shcool but it seemed like we were lukewarm on him.

Eddie, depends upon with whom you're driving. On one road trip to Indianapolis, I think our driver made it in about 11 minutes.
I wouldn't say we were lukewarm on James, planner. In fact, I'd say the coaches would probably love to have him in the program. Here's the only catch: we can only take on two transfers if we add another scholarship player for the coming year. My impression is that we're fairly intent on getting Jake Barnett and Kyle Rowley, but it's good to have options.

Maybe lukewarm was a bad term, but I recall him going to some prep school in Cali for one semester before leaving there and coming back home. Eventually got an offer from Evansville and took it. Not sure if we offered him after prep school or not. I am not sure if it was timing with us but something seemed off in his recruiting. Did we offer him in high school or did he chose a prep school to get an offer from a bigger school?
I like his game, hopefully his grades and attitude make him a potential fit for us. Good to hear they are recruiting Barnett and Rowley.

I'm changing the subject a bit here. The story said 7 players have quit in the last 13 months. You here all those clowns on radio say about the local teams here (MU or UWM) that so many players are leaving, here is just one example of a sh*t load of players leaving. See it happens all over the place.

Depends why they're leaving. Voluntary departures are one thing. But if listening to clowns on the radio troubles you...
As for Haarsma, I haven't seen him play in college so I don't know how much upside he has. I don't think he has the right profile for MU. Other than MU the only other D1 school as close as we are to Kenosha is Northwestern.
If he wants to play really close to home and doesn't want to sit out a year, there's always Parkside or Whitewater.

Never saw him at E-ville either but he was averaging 10 points and 7 boards in the MVC, so I think he can play on this level. I would imagine GB as well as Northern Illinois, UIC and Loyola would be other options just based on geography.

Yes ... based on geography. But Ricardo Patton, Jimmy Collins and Jim Whitesell all appear to be hanging by a thread and Green Bay is re-organizing under Brian Wardle. Which of the five is most likely to win over the next three years?

That is true. I was just rattling off teams that are somewhat close to Kenosha. At this point its anybody's guess which teams will actually recruit him and offer him a scholarship.

Some interesting comments on the Courier-Press website about James and the transfer situation at UE.
"Huge loss for the Aces. It will be impossible to build up their program if kids keep leaving all the time. James has been a great asset for the team when he has been healthy and his experience would really help the younger players. James is a fine young man and I wish him the best in his future endeavors."
"... A program cannot win with annual defections that impact the starting lineup. It is understandable if a player transfers to get more playing time, but there is no excuse for losing players to transfer that are starters and/or major contributors. Losing Kaylon Williams, James Haarsma, and Bryan Bouchie in a year's time is a major blow to the program. That is losing your projected starting PG, PF, and C that the program was trying to build around."

Didn't Bouchie start at Valpo? I thought he had a lot of potential. Where is he going now? Transferring twice will really mess up your collegiate experience.

He would have been their best player this year. It appears he's quitting basketball altogether for personal reasons (health, stress, academics). Gotta do what you gotta do....

Regarding Haarsma...
I wonder if he would walk on to be closer to home? If he's really dead set on moving back home to be closer to friends and family, and we're holding onto scholarships for other players, then why not offer him the chance to walk-on with the chance at a scholarship his senior (and maybe junior) year. Win-win for everyone...right?
