Just speaking from past experience, students who attend games, and do not care about the SBGC, even if they are al about UWM, aren't going to respond to order and organization. They are college kids, and they do not want college other college kids telling them what to do.

If students want to yell vulgar terms, there's nothing people can do, but tell them to knock it off; unless you're yelling at a ref... in which case you might get tossed...

I think we have to remember what the people who "lead" the student section are dealing with here... loud drunk college kids... many of the kids in the student section are 18-19 years old, free of the confinement of their parents house and think they can do whatever they want, and while it is offensive to some, it is an ugly part of being at collegiate sporting events. And to the one posting from the Izzone, you cant tell me that in all your attendence of MSU games, you didnt hear 1 F*bomb or dirty cheer attempt? Unfortunately it happens, I for one like Jimmy, but before jimmy, was in the mix, with a loud voice that could get the entire section to start a cheer, im not going to deny that i never did the dirty cheers, because im pretty certain i have, was i dumb, yes. but college students arent going to conform to any type of "law and order" in a student section, we tried it when kids would start yelling random F bombs... especially if the game was a TV game, most of the time they told us to F* off. kicking students out is a bad idea, if you can have a few students reserve your places in the section, stand at the entrances and hand them cheer sheets as they walk in, yea many of them will toss it on the ground but you might capture a few that would normally join in on doing a dirty chant by drowning it out with your own from the sheet so they can see it and know what it is without trying to decipher in a drunken haze. but im rambling now... onward and upward brett

Everything you're saying is correct. Some kids won't listen. But that doesn't excuse their conduct. I've been lots of college games and I've watched hundreds on TV. Yet I never heard chants like these at of them. Sure you might get one or two saying something offensive but there's been times with several dozen were participating.
I think that's why this thread was started. Someone wanted anyone who's participated know that it's not acceptable. The point has been made. It's time to let this die and move on.

If people have a real beef, they need to bring it to the attention of the students while AT the game. Maybe we'll be seeing you between 7p-9p.

I have been to and watched enough college games in the past year as well as pro games that I really do not understand at all how people think that our student section is all that bad, honestly I think the only thing that we do for Milwaukee as compared to any other school that I have seen is that we stay loud and make sure that the other team knows we have students the ENTIRE GAME, we do not jsut get quite and go away as many other schools in our league do.
Hell even watching the Duke - Maryland game, the Maryland student section is much more vulgar and much more blatant than those in our student section. Honestly half the time I don;t even know what the kids are saying and I sit in the middle of court in the 200 level section so it isn't like I am all that far away....but the Maryland kids are in my opinion worse than those in Madison, they chant profanity after profanity and it was more than a group of 10 or 20 kids it was easily 1000 kids i would guess since their student section is quite vast at least it is from TV. So before you think that we have students that are the end all be all of college basketball fans please know that I tend to say that we are some of tamest fans that I have seen, we just do not let ourselves quiet down which is a very good thing and we should be loud and heard by our opponents all game long no matter what.
oh and I honestly do not hold anything that Jimmy Collins or anyone on that team has to say with much more than a gain of salt, the guy tells his owns teams fans to go hell and shut the f*** up so why would I be surprised about anything he says about our fans, he is a cry baby and always has been when he plays here in Milwaukee.

That's what we have in the SBGC. But we don't have authority or an ability to police the people that are there for the first time or drunk. We can set an example, we can yell at them tell them to be respectful but we cannot do anything if they tell us to F_ck Off. We can set an example, we can only do so much. Not to sound like an ass but frankly I feel bad for the fans that get offended and whatnot cause some d-bag said something. But what do you really expect at a sporting event, esp in college. have you not been to a Brewers game where people yell anything and everything do you think it's going to change in college basketball. If your offended by what someone says, hey im sorry but frankly its going to happen, and you know that. Nothing can be done, you can not arrest someone for yelling something at some player and it offended you in the seat. Deal with it, I guess I feel sorry for those of you who aren't offended. This is your school, be proud of it. I can guarantee you that it is not this way at every sporting event. Having been an avid fan at many different sporting events for 6 years at another public university, I can assure you that we did not include any comments like this in our chants. The fact that there are people who just shrug their shoulders and say "deal with it" is half the problem. i guess that's a pretty loose code of conduct to let the "Brokeback Hummel" chant this past weekend slip through the cracks...
