Hey I think that the SBGC should have a meeting to discuss what we are doing this year. I've been to a few spirit committee meetings and they need some help from us to get more people to games. Also there has been some talk about starting some traditions and promoting these ideas. I can't wait for the season to start and think that if we start organizing this club bit more we can really improve our student section. I need this meeting to take place before November 4th because that is the next spirit committee meeting and they want to have some feedback as to what we are doing. So anyone that is interested post a reply and let me know what time works best for you.

I think that a meeting would be an excellent idea. Who is the president this year exactly? I think a lot of people still do not know about this club, but if they did they would want to join. I also think even though freshman...are well freshman it is important to get them involved because they most likely would be willing to check out a college basketball game because they have never been to one. I know that is why I first went to a game.

uwm6thman and michelle --
Thank you for your suggestions regarding the holding of a formal meeting of the Student Black & Gold Club at UWM.
The original Student Black & Gold Club at UWM did have formal meetings, but not too many members. The ad hoc "Klotsche Krazies", inspired by Bruce Pearl's recruitment efforts, did have lots of members, but no meetings.
When the two groups merged, the Student Black & Gold Club became the official structure for the ad hoc Klotsche Krazies and Engelmann Crazies.
The leader of the Klotsche Krazies, former Sandburg RA Devin Kack, became the "President" of the Student Black & Gold Club, but recently graduated this last May after two years of ad hoc leadership.
This fall, the charter of The Student Black & Gold Club was renewed under four contact people:
Wojahn, Darren Robert Knauer, Milton William Goodhue, Benjamin Robert Nordenberg, Peter Alfred
All are registered students at UWM, taking credit classes.
The Panther Fan Discussion Board constitutes a continuing ad hoc meeting of The Student Black & Gold Club. Posting your messages is the same as going to a meeting and raising your hand.
I would encourage every "member" to use the discussion board to stay abreast of current events, make suggestions and proposals, and engage in organizing the participation of other members at campus events.
On the official SBGC website, there is an instant sign-up feature and anyone who puts in their email address from UWM will be added to the reflector.
Your participation in other campus groups, like the Spirit Committee, is still the best way to satisfy the need to have formal meetings.
You could certainly post the minutes of their official deliberations onto the Panther Fan Discussion Board. People always have the option of joining more than one group.
It has been suggested that The Student Black & Gold Club has upwards of 300 ad hoc members. The email reflector alone has 159 addresses.
Having an official formal meeting would be a large undertaking, considering that lots of people above and beyond the 159 might consider themselves "members at large."
On the other hand, perhaps very few would show up, but would cheerfully participate in lots of other events besides meetings.
Sorry if all this detailed information isn't helpful. The Spirit Committee may still be the best venue to gather people around a table to talk to each other.
Faithfully yours,
John J Ward General Secretary and Webmaster The Student Black & Gold Club at UWM

Thanks for the info John, I agree with michelle that we need to figure out who exactly is the president. I've been told a few names, I've even been told that i was the vice president. Reguarless of who is or isn't we need to set something up. I'm more than willing to step up and be a big part of the club.

Charter renewal forms are pre-printed to designate four contact people. The University, and the Student Association, decline to impose governance titles onto student organizations. Darren Wojahn is listed as the First Contact, implying that he is the president of The Student Black & Gold Club. An organization the size of the Student Black & Gold Club, no matter how you measure it, could certainly have more than one Vice President. Ben Goodhue manned (person'ed) the Student Black & Gold Club booth during the Spaights Plaza Fair a few weeks back, and also served as the go to person to get our Charter renewed by the deadline. Having a member of the Student Association among the leadership is always a plus. While the club has never sought funding or office space from the student government, there are some contributions from the last election checkoff. In the past, sponsors, or alumni, or even our own coaches, have come forward to provide most things needed to function. There are advantages to keeping things uncomplicated, especially when there is natural turnover through graduation. If people are seeking heads around a table, weekly meetings, donuts, minutes, and Robert's Rules of Order, I would offer my assistance in forming a second student organization. Not too many "members" were inclined to attend such activities in the past. (The Wrestling Club would rather wrestle than have meetings...) Formal Club with official trappings = Small
Informal Ad Hoc group with few official trappings = Very Large
Very Large is better

I believe the official positions cited on the contact sheet were Czar, Chief of Staff, Alderman, and Governor?
