From chicagosports.com:
Throw it down
Chicago's best streetball dunkers and shooters will compete at noon Saturday for "City Slam," a national contest that will air on ESPN July 28-30 and Aug. 4-5. The public is welcome to attend the competition, which will be at Seward Park, at the corner of Division and Orleans (375 W. Elm St.).
Former UIC forward Armond Williams is among those scheduled to vie for the $5,000 top prize and a chance to win the national "City Slam" championship against winners from Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York.
Dee Brown hosts "City Slam," and the judges are Spud Webb, Damon Jones and Artis Gilmore.

In related news, Armond Williams will also be participating in "Street Thug", a contest that pits former and current felons and law breakers in tests of street thuggery.

Apparently, the main event will be a fight scheduled for 12 rounds between Ed "The Criminal" McCants and an elderly couple....my money's on Eddie... By the way, what laws did Armond break?

Pantherholic, apparently you skipped the first couple posts of the thread. I was referring to PantherLou's suggestion of the "Street Thug" contest. Of course there's no boxing match in a dunk-contest you re-re! When you're done reading the entire thread (like you should've done the first time), come back and talk trash. fan22, just so you know, Armond Williams was the high-school dunk champion in Illinois coming out of high-school. The guy can still dunk without a doubt....I recall him throwing down something nasty against UWM in the HL championship 2 years ago. He also had a sick dunk against Duke this year which caused Coach K to yell at the refs. Yes he's missed a few dunks (which is not quite as bad as the Dylan Page layup syndrome), but in a dunk contest, I don't see how he can't compete. He bulked up a bit at UIC but he can get up pretty well for his size....watch for yourself when it's on ESPN...it could be interesting.

Refresh my memory on when Armond graduated highschool? Wasn't that back when it was cool to walk around with a boombox on your shoulder???
Might be worth my while to slide on over to it and see these skills first hand.

Luckily for UIC they'll never suffer from the "Dylan Page layup syndrome" b/c they'll lose by 25 points everytime they get to the tourney. Its hard to choke when you have no chance to win from the beginning. And btw Big D i had read the other posts when i commented b4. Whereas Pantherlou's was funny your comeback just flat out sucked so I ridiculed yours instead.

Whereas Pantherlou's was funny your comeback just flat out sucked so I ridiculed yours instead. If you're going to ridicule a comment of mine, then this one is good (about us losing by 25 in the tourney every time).....you at least responded to my actual post, so I'll give you credit for that. However, in your previous post you said "wow they're putting boxing matches in dunk contests huh?" Really, what in the hell are you talking about, and how is this ridiculing my comeback when I was specifically referring to the "Street Thug" contest and not the dunk contest? There are only two possible explanations for such stupidity... 1) You didn't read the whole thread, and don't want to admit it, or 2) You're the one with the sucky comebacks around here, because your comment made no sense whatsoever. Which one is it? I for one, thought my comeback was pretty good....as was PantherLou's....the only problem with his is that there is less truth to it than mine (Armond is not a criminal whereas Ed is).... Oh, and Armond graduated high-school in 2000....one would not expect a huge decline in athleticism between the ages of 18 and 23-24 (I don't think an athlete is in his prime as a teenager).....in fact, he may be more athletic now....it's not quite the same as going from 35-40, for instance.

Big D, Please let me know how this contest ends up.
FWIW, while Williams may not have been ever officially charged or convicted of anythig, I will still hold to my opinion of him: He's a thug.

Lou, I'll let you guys know what happens with the contest....but I think it airs next weekend on ESPN. And, you can call Armond a thug if you want....but if you call Armond a thug, then you definitely have to call McCants a thug. Wouldn't you agree? I mean, on one hand you have a kid that grew up in Chicago, and on the other, you have a guy that beats on old people....who's the thug? It should be noted that your contest involved felons and law-breakers...neither of which includes Armond....let's not spread rumors.

You do know that this means I am being sarcastic, right? And I am not here to pass judgement on anyone, just letting you know that I think Armond Williams is a thug. As this is a UWM message board, and I am a UWM fan, you are going to have no luck getting me to say anything bad about Ed.
