What is up with the HL?
BU in 8th? They beat Detroit today at home.
So what is up with Detroit? Did they catch us off guard? That is all I can muster up. I mean Cotton should be lighting everyone up.
Just a couple questions to see what people's opinions were.

I hate to question someone whose status on the message board is that of "God," but I imagine you meant parity, as opposed to parody. We want to maintain the right to question the academics at UWM's opponents' institutions. While it's doubtful anybody from UIC or UWGB would know the difference, I didn't want anyone to doubt the vocabulary of UWM fans!
parody
n 1: a composition that imitates somebody's style in a humorous way [syn: lampoon, spoof, sendup, mockery, takeoff, burlesque, travesty, charade, pasquinade, put-on] 2: humorous or satirical mimicry [syn: mockery, takeoff] v 1: make a spoof of or make fun of 2: make a parody of; "The students spoofed the teachers" [syn: spoof, burlesque]
par·i·ty1 ( P ) Pronunciation Key (pr-t) n. pl. par·i·ties
1. Equality, as in amount, status, or value.

...but getting off my high-horse and actually answering the question, I think there is a great deal of parity in the HL. Relatively new coaches at Cleveland, Loyola and Green Bay are starting to get their programs turned around. Traditional powers like UIC, Detroit and Butler are down a bit. I think it has been the emergence of Loyola, Green Bay and Cleveland St. that has led to so much parity. As emerging programs, you've got to start by winning your home games. I haven't crunched the numbers, but Butler was at home vs. Detroit. Loyola just beat 2nd place GB at home. UWM has emerged as the top team becasue of its ability to win on the road (or they win on the road becasue they are the best team).
Losing at home to Detroit early in the year was just a fluke. UWM was coming off a challenging 6 game road trip and got a little too comfortable/took the game for granted.

This from today's Green Bay Press-Gazette:
What has become clear is that the Phoenix has trouble winning when it’s not at its best. Loyola coach Jim Whitesell said after beating UWGB that, in his opinion, only UWM can get by on anything less.
“I don’t think most of us (in the Horizon League) can,” Whitesell said. “I think Milwaukee can get away with winning and sometimes not playing well because they’re so athletic and because of their press.”
That is all.

If TK is such a great coach, why does he play with only 4 players?
Composure — or a lack of it — was the biggest problem for the Phoenix. After it turned a 37-35 halftime lead into a 53-45 advantage just before the midway point of the second half, senior guard Javier Mendiburu botched a pair of plays that led to Loyola baskets that started the 24-0 run. UWGB then missed eight straight shots and committed four turnovers in a 6½-minute stretch that determined the game’s outcome.
Then, when the game was out of hand, the Phoenix lost its cool. Senior guard Brandon Morris went after Loyola’s Tom Levin after Levin appeared to throw a couple of elbows. Morris had to be restrained, and coach Tod Kowalczyk walked onto the court begging for the officials to call something on Levin. Then, after Morris was escorted to the bench, no one replaced him, and UWGB played one possession with only four players on the court before the coaching staff realized it.
“I think we did (lose composure),” Kowalczyk said. “During that run, we lost our composure. At the end of the game, did I lose my composure? Absolutely, but with just reason.”

Morris breaks easily. In the Loyola game broadcast, Larry "The Rock" McCarren stated that Morris kicked the basketball over the backboard in the second half. I guess he was laying on the ground and kicked it, not like a drop kick, into the air. Larry thought it should have been a T, but the officials did not see it.
Two instances that Morris should have had a T.
