This from newest UWGB recruit Aswan Minatee ...
The Horizon League is one of the top mid-major leagues in the country,” he said. “(UWGB) finished second in the conference behind Milwaukee, and Milwaukee lost their best player (Ed McCants) and their coach (Bruce Pearl). I think we have a good chance to win the conference.”

Are you kidding me? They have Coach K...even if they are in a position to win the conference, he will storm the court, get a technical and choke the game! Sorry Aswan, here's how next year plays out. Top Half Milwaukee Detroit Loyola Wright State Chicago Bottom Half Green Bay Butler Cleveland State YSU Matt Rohde - gone. Tyler Koenig - gone. Benito Flores - gone. Daniel Munday - gone. Javier Mendiburu - gone (not to the NBA). Brandon Morris - gone. There's your entire team. We lost 2 players. ;D

I think this is what all the teams in the HL are saying/thinking, and I can't blame them. Both are true, and who knows how things will gel with Rob, his staff, and the players.
At this point, I'd have to say that Detroit is the favorite, anyways. Even though we get 4/5 starters back and most of our bench, losing Ed is big. He was much more than just a scorer (leader, best defensive player, etc.).
If I were Minatee, or any other player in the league, I'd be saying the same thing.

Pnthr97, I definitely agree. However I would expect to hear this statement from Detroit or Loyola, not UWGB.
It seems like these statements have become an annual affair in Green Bay. Every year there is talk of a title, but somehow they never deliver in the final stretch.
If UWGB could ever put together a second half of a season, then they would be tough.

A. Has he been to GB yet? B. Has he played with anyone on the team GB will put on the floor next year? C. Has he watched any HL games? It is great to be optimistic, but sometimes quiet optimism is best. As he gets older/wiser, he will learn not to just spout off what he is thinking to reporters - as well as learning that he may never win a HL title at GB.

they'll win the conference when the packers win the super bowl and since that ain't happening anytime soon he shouldn't get his hopes up. i see a rematch of Detroit/Milwaukee for the title.

Detroit and Loyola would appear to be serious challengers, and Wright St. seems like a strong darkhorse. Green Bay simply doesn't appear to be in their class.

You think UWGB was Minatee's first choice or, more likely, his only option?

I totally agree that the young man is being just a tad too optimistic, but why work hard all summer if you don't believe you've got a chance to win. I also agree that losing Ed is huge and could give Detroit the pre-season nod, but do you guys really think he was our best defender? IMHO there were a few other players ahead of him in that category.

i agree with Big D WSU, loyola looks kinda scary, but truthfully they are much like UIC of last year. UIC lost Bailey, similar to loyola losing gouard. Loyola really only have schilb returning. not sayins schilb isnt a scary talent and can beat some teams all by himself, but not the top HL Teams. UIC did underachive last year, but they had Ced Banks, and Armond back. Loyola just isnt that scary when you think about it.

Loyola also has kou (EAT!) returning. He plays alot like Jason McCoy. Tall, lanky, with a big wing span. He will definetly be a better defender around the arch this year. Additionally he likes to shoot the 3 ball.

Agreed...he can worrysome...just like early in the 2nd half down at Loyola...he was all over the place...If he gets going, him and Blake could a force.
