Over a period of the last couple of months I've grown increasingly disturbed by some of the negativity on here.
Yes this is a fan board and people are entitled to express their opinions but at least TRY to be constructive.
Keep in mind that we have a number of kids who are freshman. Remember how it was when YOU adjusted to going to college. And for 99.9% you didn't have add in learning a new BB system, going to practice, finding a role on a team that has had major success in the recent past, not knowing ANYONE on campus etc etc. etc.
These are kids who didn't even know each other a couple of months ago. They're doing the best they can.
Furthermore, there's a reason why they were recruited. In their High Schools they were stars. They are used to winning. It's a jarring shock for them to find out they have more learning to do and that they didn't match up well with someone on the other team.
Losing like this has a huge impact. And they're at an age where they're egos are going to be somewhat fragile. They don't need people saying they can't defend, they can't shoot, they shoot too much, they can't rebound etc.
If you want to say "so and so would be better as a pg" that's fine. Saying "Why is he out on the floor he can't do this that or the other thing. We'd be better off with so and so" is not.
Comments like "He needs to take a little longer look at the basket before he shoots" are okay, "Comments like, why the hell does he keep shooting" aren't.
Just put yourself in these guys shoes folks. They come here, as big men on their high school campuses. For the first time in many years they have to compete for playing time. They have to learn a new system, they have to learn how to live away from home and they get plenty of criticism from the coaching staff.
They don't need us adding to it.

there ego's should be fragile...or maybe yet they should not even have one. The funny thing about this post is yes maybe some have been overly critical on this board, but truthfully its the nature of the beast in athletics. I'm gonna tell yah though. This is my sixth year watching panther basketball and every year they have had an above .500 winning percentage. It might be tough for people to watch them early on in the year. Milwaukee Basketball probably hasn't been this bad since Bo's first year in Milwaukee in 99-00. Attendance will probably drop off because people want to see a winner and there will be complaining on this board, only because their expectations of the program are high. Attendance will probably drop considerably, the team will lose games early on. I think I am pretty objective when it comes to the team and I have said that I think we will stink this year, but after seeing them on Friday and Saturday nights if they improve every game like I think they have done so far we will finish middle of the pack in the horizon, and make a run in the Horizon tourney, possibly stealing the whole damn thing. I see that much potential with some of these guys.Furthermore though, I understand that some of you want the best for the program and your little hearts cant take it when someone with a differing opinion on the team comes on here and says you guys suck this year or we are picked 7th in the league and you guys get all defensive saying we dont. Honestly look at the games this weekend....Right now......We suck and are probably the worst team in the league.

Kroener, I agree. Right now, easily the worst in the league. Sam Huston State and South Dakota might be our only other wins before entering the HL schedule. If we dont improve, we certainly wont beat YSU, and after that, only Cleveland State is a possible win.
Yet next year I still believe that we win conference, and make some noise in the tourny.

Kroener, I basically feel the same way. I think this team may make some noise towards the end of the year if they continue to improve, and that will set us up and give this team a confidence boost for next year.

Re: John Thompson Classic
I had my first opportunity to watch UWM basketball this past weekend. My first reactions were surprise, anger, and disappointment. After thinking about it in what I believe is a rational way I have some very different thoughts and feelings about the team. Naturally, I wanted to see the team win; they didn't. WHY? The fact that they were able to defeat Radford is somewhat surprising! 1. The entire team is extremely inexperienced in Div.1 play. Having stated that fact I believe that I would be asking too much of the players to come out for their 1st Div 1 games and perform at level of play that would be competetive much less even win. 2. Both Paulsen and Mauldin have not played in two seasons. Mauldin played his first Div 1 minutes ever against Wa.St. Saturday nite. He played all of four minutes. Still he scored points and got rebounds! And nobody got him the ball inside. Who is going to say that he should have done more. To take this situation further, Paulsen is a forward, he is asked to perform like a center, when that is not where his previous experience is. Is anyone going to have the temerity to say that Paulsen doesn't have balls because he doesn't perform very well at a position that he does not normally play? Paulsen scored points and got rebounds! 3. Just how many freshmen (let me remind you, freshmen means right out of High School), are on this team? 4. The guards were not able to function very well. They could not get the ball into the post(could that be why Mauldin is not an offensive threat? Naaaa, must be some other reason.) The guards were not able to drive the lane with anything close to effeciency. Their decision making as to when to do this was very questionable. But I am sure that with all their Div 1 experience something else must be at fault. Come on people lighten up.!!!!! This team needs experience and I only know of one way to get it, the hard way. This team also needs your support and understanding. Is it fair for us as fans to rag on the players in a personal way that in no shape, form, or fashion could be construed as being positive, much less as a critique? And just in case any have forgotten, the coaches are a part of the team and deserve support! Now, what can we do as fans to help this team?!!!!
