The meeting with Board members and AD staff was held as scheduled.
About 10 or 12 fans were there in addition to ticket office staff, Jason Clark, and ticket office staff as well as the Associate AD for Business Affairs, Charles Lang
Most of the discussion was about Panther Madness (it won't be called Super Saturday). As noted elsewhere on this board it will be at 6pm on Saturday October 14th
It will be held at the Cell following the VBall game. There will be many VERY nice prizes including a trip to Mexico and Two Panther mopeds, subs for a year and other very nice stuff.
The festivities will also include a scrimmage by the men's team and one by the women's team. The men and women will be mixed as they show they stuff with layups and dunks.
Many of the activities were scheduled after hearing ideas and suggestions from last year's crowd.
Sorry if I missed any points, others who will there can add in their comments if I did.
SHUTTLES WILL RUN FROM THE DORMS BEGINNING A COUPLE HOURS BEFORE HAND.
The banner from last year's NCAA appearance will be spotlighted but because of the challenges with hanging it, it must be hung in advance. They tried to figure out a way to do it some other way but it's not possible.
The staff discouraged people from bringing signs welcoming any recruits. If there's spelling errors or someone who's not included it would be embarassing. The AD can not make the signs or provide any materials for us to make any so it seems best to leave that one alone.
On other notes:
RADIO CONTRACT
WOKY will again broadcast men's game and now will also broadcast women's games. SSP was interested but it was decided the WOKY package was better because we will get 25 promo spots PER WEEK on the clear channel stations including the Number 1 rated WMIL.
This is a good deal because last year some women's games were not broadcast due to conflicts with other events. WOKY and Clear Channel are happy to have us.
TV BROADCASTS
TV Broadcasts will stay on WMIL this year. They put out an RFP for bids and several stations were interestedincluding channels 18 and 24, fox sports and warner cable. But it turns out the contact doesn't expire until next month and they couldn't issue an RFP, until after it does. An 8 month contract has been signed with them and an RFP will go out after it expires.
8 Men's games and two women's games will broadcast, not including the Wisconsin game which will be on ESPN Plus. I don't remember all of them but I remember that no home games will be broadcast. The Michigan game will not be televised but the Oakland game will be, because Oakland is televising it and it's cheaper.
They tried to schedule the broadcasts so they come before a big game and arouse interest. We are the only HL team with a real TV package. UIC will be broadcasting two games this year, as will Loyola.
NO BUSES TO AWAY GAMES
At this point it's been decided not to charter fan buses to away games. They weren't selling out since alcholol was banned on them. If some other entity wants to have buses the AD would cooperate with that but they won't run them, themselves.
SCHEDULING:
The schedule could be better. When asked about it, the staff said part of the problem is the HL and part is the Cell. Certain dates are available because of long standing events like the Circus and because we are #2 (behind the Wave) in the pecking order.
FOLLOW UP:
There will be more meetings to give ideas and feed back in the future.
I suggested a Booster group that organized and planned its own events., like pre-game parties and the types of things done by the W club in Madison. They said that you can't have an independent booster group anymore but would be happy to work with people to get something going.
Anyone who is interested in this idea, please shoot me an email here.
