I wonder which conference has the most amount of African-American coaches...The Horizon has 4 now and I would imagine that not many more conferences have as many as we do. Not an important topic but I think it is interesting...

I don't think it matters how many there are... I think it matters, that we are diversifing.... We shouldn't judge one by color.

I understand what's behind both posts above, I think. But I think it does still matter to a lot of African Americans as well as others who celebrative diversity -- and for that reason, I think it will be seen as a great thing in this city that became "majority minority" by the year 2000, according to the census.
After all, there were a lot of mentions in the media, including by the ex-coach himself, about him being Jewish.
And we had an African American chancellor more than a decade ago at UWM, but did we have an African American men's head basketball coach before this millennium? Has there been one before this at UWM, at MU, at the UW? It could be worth more coverage for us.
I do think the important thing is that we're past making Jeter's future an assessment of all black basketball coaches. That is a more important sign of progress -- that he will be judged as an individual.

Ummm ... Ric Cobb??
I would imagine the SWAC or MEAC would have the most black head coaches.

I had no idea Rob Jeter was black. That is probably a really good thing in terms of progress. I just knew he was a top assistant/recruiter.

Wisconsin has had two African-American head basketball coaches -- Bill Cofield in the late 70s, and Stu Jackson in the early 90s.
