From the Lexington Herald Leader yesterday (March 27):
Majerus to Vols?
ESPN analyst Rick Majerus said that a Tennessee booster called him to ask about his interest in becoming the Vols' coach.
"I'm not ready now," he said. "I need a little time to get in great shape this summer."
Majerus, who had successful coaching stints at Utah and Ball State, left the profession for health and personal reasons last year. He accepted the job at Southern Cal last winter, then resigned within a week when he realized he wasn't ready to get back into coaching. Majerus is looking at 2006-2007 as a season to return to the sidelines.

Why not just give him the old part of the Klotsche?

I don't see Majerus being a good fit for this program. He's 57 years old, and obvisouly has some health issues. How much FIRE is in his tank anymore? How is his health going to be when he takes the bus to Butler or Cleveland State? He has been great in the past, but we need to think forward.

His age means nothing. Lots of the best coaches out there are in or above that range. The health and "fire in the belly" (resist temptation to make crack about room for an inferno) issues are huge.
