Someone asked about UT's NCAA performances. 13 appeareances. one sweet sixteen in 2000?
No elite eights No final Fours and no National Championships.
Therefore, Bruce picked a program that pays well and has no great history to compete with. Good move.
I felt bad when we lost Bo Ryan, because I knew he was a good coach. Now we lose Pearl. Hopefully we can grow with our next coach. It will be hard for the next coach, the bar has been raised.
I wish Bruce well, as long as Milwaukee does not face UT in the dig dance. Then we will have to teach the teacher.

For that matter, Dan Manoyan wrote in the Journal Sentinel that UWM has a distinguished academic record. But anyone who uses the Journal Sentinel sports section to pick a school for academic strengths also believed Gary Howard when he said he knew for a fact that Bruce Pearl was not leaving UWM.
Don't worry, anyone who counts on a sports commentator on academics isn't going to get a good enough ACT score to get in UWM, anyway.

Based on the recent experience of people I know, it is harder to get into UWM than it is to get into Marquette or DePaul. It is easier to get into big name law schools from UWM than it is to do so from Marquette. Peter Brown could get into none of these.

Hello guys...I'm a Tennessee Vol fan and just came by to check out your team and things being said about Coach Pearl.
First off, I'm sure you guys will continue to have success in the future with another great hire by your school. Secondly, in all honesty, I don't expect any kids that were being recruited to UWM will be heading to Knoxville because of a couple of reasons.
1.) Scholarship room is limited right now to one more signee this year and that is slated for Jamont Gordon of Oak Hill Academy.
2.) There are a lot of good basketball players in the Junior class in the state of Tennessee right now. Memphis is an extremely fertile recruiting territory that frankly our previous coach, Buzz Peterson failed to get any players from there.
So I would not worry about defections to UT.
With that said, the program at UT has been down now for about 25 years. It once produced a tremendous talent flow with Tom Boerwinkle, Ernie Grunfeld, Bernard King, Reggie Johnson, Dale Ellis, etc. Frankly, Tennessee's coaching has been in disaray for that long. Kevin O'Neill was about the best thing to happen to Tennessee from a recruiting standpoint in the 90's. However, KO had "other" places to go and just doesn't like sticking around anywhere for long. With his recruits, Tennessee went to the NCAA tourney four times under a guy who couldn't coach, Jerry Green. Green managed to get the program back to where it was before KO arrived and Buzz Peterson was simply too inexperienced to rebuild the program. Thus Pearl hopefully for us is FINALLY the right solution.
The Vols basketball program is a sleeping giant. The athletic budget exceeds $70 million a year and that is with a poor basketball team. Though our arena is only 60% full, that still represents 15,000 seats. The arena seats over 24,000 for basketball. Coach Pearl will have a private jet to be able to recruit and will have all the resources that he asks for.
As to why Tennessee and Pearl got together, it was based on our AD listening to Ernie Grunfeld. Ernie's advice was ignored by our last AD and this time Ernie spoke to Pearl directly as well as the AD. In addition, Pearl solicited advice from none other than Kevin O'Neill about the job since they know each other well. KO said it is a great job and could be terrific with the right person.
I wish you guys the best of luck in the future and hope that might shed some light on what has just happened.

Little of topic, but somewhat on it....
Speaking of Grunfeld, Terry Porter needs to be fired. Like now... I have been a diehard bucks fan forever, and this is killin me. I know he is from Milwaukee, and it's a great story and all, but he flat out can't coach. Sorry bout this off topic little rant.

carlos said that he is devoted to keeping the program on the upswing, funding, and the whole she-bang. Unfortunately I find this hard to swallow. I have followed and attended events with Mr. Santiago since fall and can say that this would be quite a change in policy for him. His main focuses are research and raising our sub-par graduation rates. I did not see Carlos, or hear anything about him evening noticing our program until the green bay game (away) when the governor was there. If that is what it takes to get him to go to games then that bothers me. I do not count any of the Tourney games since it is in his job description to be in attendance more to games of that stature. One positive note however, Chancellor Santiago’s other big focus was increases Alumni donations etc, and it is a statistical fact that athletics bring in the most money. Hopefully he is willing to invest in this. Also, he is faced by immense pressure from the UW board of regents, state, and city to make changes; which could work in our favor if he sees the program as a faucet of assistance.
