Bruce Pearl was down at the Milwaukee Auto Show on Sunday afternoon to autograph photos for fans at the Chevrolet show area.
He was quite amused that some dumb photographer would line up to get yet another photo. (It's true, we have dozens and dozens and dozens.)
Later in the day, I was out at the Mayfair Mall Food Court, in suburban Wauwatosa, and spotted the entire Detroit Titan Team coming up the escalator. They seemed to favor The Chinese Gourmet.
In another time and place, these men could be students at either UWM or UIC. People should hesitate to paint players, coaches, family, friends, or fans with any type of broad brush.
Across the Horizon League, I see lots of very good people. We all should rejoice in their participation and the collective effort to build strong competition.

Well I happen to think you are a liar, but ya know, I don't know you. You're right, you obviously don't. What I do know is that Milwaukee student fans were hurling comments at the Titan Cheerleaders and particuarly the Mascot. How pathetic and embarresing for you that ought to be...but then again, it didnt sound like comments from UWM staff were getting through to you. I didn't know this even took place until I heard about it afterwards, considering I arrived in the second half of the UDM/UWGB game. So I don't know who you're referring to when you say "you", but it obviously isn't me. Like I said, I was on the BENCH side of the student section once I was there, NOT by the UDM band/cheerleaders. Now that I do know about it, I'm as embarassed by those students as you should be by your players. The only difference is, well, obvious. My schools players would NOT have reacted that way, and your players DID. A couple of my schools drunk freshman on that side of the student section DO NOT represent me, but your players and their actions DO represent you. So go you! -Jason

And you're right John Jay, as usual. We should avoid painting opposing schools, teams, players, and fans with a broad brush. I am vehemently against booing for no specific reason entire teams opposing players during intros, yelling you suck 583 times a game at the opposition, and many (worse) other things that SOME of the younger/drunker, more immature students at our school do. Booing the other teams dance team just for performing at the tourney? Come on, grow up. Didn't you go to any BB games in Middle school and High school and get that crap out of your system then?!? And NO, Virginia, NOT every schools fans do this SH1T!!! Are you really trying to prove that we have less class than Marquette and their students? Then I truly hope you transfer SOON. Like your team's coach desperately wants of you, please, please, SHOW SOME CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!111!!*#%$^ -Jason

This discussion is getting boring. Let's get back to the game. Sorry, I truly feel this is an important part of the game. Student sections and fan support always is in the college game. Just ask some of our former players on here. This is also part of our battle for respect and growth as a program. We all know it won't happen overnight, but that doesn't mean it needs to take longer than it has to - by not chastising our fellow students, fans local media etc. when they are bringing us down. Not trying to rain on the parade, but it must be said, and it's way too important to be boring. -Jason

SRT4driver,
Since when do you have the right to go around judging what other students do at the games? You mean to tell me, that you are the perfect fan? You never, cus, you never harass??? That's horsesh1t!! And the to go above all, you stereotype freshman, and not just them, but drunk ones! How ignorant are you!? I haven't missed a game in nearly 4 years, and have watched this student section grow from 15 kids to the (if I had to guess) couple thousand that were there at the past few games. I think it is a pretty low statement for yourself when you argue over nothing, all while putting down your own students. Wow. Maybe you watched sportscenter tonight, and saw the bit on J.J. Reddick, and how he is constantly harassed with comments that are way more disturbing than "you suck" We are in college here, this is what builds the intensity of games. Please don't judge "freshman" or whatever pathetic stereotypes you want to use. I think we were all freshman at one point, and we all just want one thing... a UWM victory!

PS your band is almost as good as loyola's, which isnt saying much.

Go Panthers You know what, you're completely right. I apologize. I will never again frown upon another persons actions, since I'm not perfect. I shouldn't have called out SOME of our students, or worse, the ones that show up to games so drunk they have to be carried off before half time by the police watching our student section because they are falling over other students in the rows in front of them from losing consciousness. I can't believe I stooped to sterotyping like that when I even said they were freshman. I was NEVER a freshman, at my H.S. the diploma gets you automatic sophomore college status, didn't you know? If someone next to me ever throws something on the court again, or screams obscenities at OUR players on OUR bench for messing up on a play, I will just let it slide, and never say a discouraging word again. I mean, it's not my place, right? There's no need for any of us to ever sensibly police up our fellow students for embarrassing actions, even if it might draw a T and cost us a game one day, right? After all, it is their right to make their own mistakes, no matter how bad it makes the rest of us, the school, or the team look, right? So, just to sum it up, I'm sorry, I was obviously WAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY out of line here, and it'll never happen again. I hope to see even more of these students and their actions Tuesday night for the Championship game on ESPN, and am ashamed that I was so "ignorant" for feeling this way. Thank you so much for pointing out the error of my ways, I will be sure to pass it along to others that feel the same way I did if they are not already on this board. I now feel I need to help stamp out their ignorance too! -Jason P.S.

SRT4driver, Good post, lol. I am not tellin ya what to do, by any means, but in all seriousness, who cares what people yell? Or how drunk they get? We are in college, having a good time. Who cares how much someone yells "suck" during the course of the game? Would it be better to go back to how it was last year? or two years ago? or even three for that matter??? When every other word was the F word, and games had to be stopped because stuff was thrown on the floor? I don't think so. And if a college athlete can't handle a little booing, maybe they should re-think this whole sports thing. That, along with the student section, is part of the game. Are UWM students a "pain in the ass" yea, we are, but would you rather have the growing student fan base like UWM does, or would you rather have the 36 kids from UWGB that show up??
Good sarcastic response though to a little disagreement, which is the point of a discussion board, to discuss things...

"(If someone) screams obscenities at OUR players on OUR bench for messing up on a play, I will just let it slide, and never say a discouraging word again" Do I smell an Ewok? nice Yep. Or how about the dummy who stormed outta the student section in the middle of the first half vs. Butler saying, "We suck, call me when they're good!" Must have been his first game I hope he missed us winning our 2nd straight reg. season championship. And BBALL30, no, we don't need fans like that. The fatal flaw in your argument is that most of our thousands of new fans DO NOT do these things, at least no more than yell suck or boo. And they are just following the bad apples that I'm talking about that start those chants/actions AS WELL as other things much more tasteless. And I'm not stereotyping, assuming, or generalizing about these few bad apples, I've seen it with my own two eyes. I've been to over 95% of all home games since our second last year at the K.C., and in the student section for nearly every one, as well as 4 bus trips, including Valpo. So I DO know. If a student is at all intelligent, he/she will find a way to cheer without looking classless and shameless. Even while drunk. I would know. ;D For real Bball30, u are right that we've come a long way, and if hearing "You Suck" in every chant all night long instead of "Go Panthers" is the worst thing happening, I can definately deal with it and keep my mouth shut. It's the other worse stuff that really pisses me off though. -Jason

A. mascots.com/images/galleries/humans/Pages/UnivDetroitMercy_TommyTita.html It is hardly a hand me down, take a look at all the professional teams that have used this company. B. A Titan is not a monster, they were Mythalogical gods, they were Giant Warriors who were in battle with Zeus and other gods. I guess the Tennessee titans and a number of other collegiate programs are wrong as well...http://www.myt-shirts.com/tshirtsweb/images/titans.gif C. Regarding our pep band...We don't have a music program at our school, and even most recently when we did, we still only had the pep band and a choir. The pep band is a group of volunteer players who play on the side to earn extra scholarship money. They do a very fine job considering those facts so stop ripping on stuff that you dont know about. Why don't you just focus on the game and stop trying to rip apart others colleges and their programs. I hope all UWM arent this ignorant

You guys are both making equally good points. I'd just like to add the one thing that bothered me was on the first 3 fouls called against us, idiots started chanting Bullsh#% everytime. C'mon, let's get real here. I'd like to hear that only once, maybe twice in a game.
I believe the best possible goal for our program would be maintaining our free admission to the games, however, having reserved seats can be really nice. Beginning of the season or for indiv. games, everyone needs to get in line or into a ballot for ticket rights. It's a sure bet that die hards will be up front and bandwagon idiots will fall back. And, if you f' up in some way, you're tickets are revoked. Just something to think about as our program continues to make strides!

I hope all UWM arent this ignorant OK i'll give you that there are ALOT different interpretations of mythology so in that respect a titan in a human form is acceptable. but there is no way you can tell me that you didn't rip off MSU. that is sparty with less fake muscles and different colors. you don't see us immitating Buckingham U. Badger, we're not the mighty racoons or something of the likes. and whats the difference if you don't have a music program, it just sounds like an excuse for mediocrity, pep band music has to be the easiest form of music to play. its not some mozart concerto, its tequila and the hey song. these are all major roles in the game and this is college so if you suck you're gonna get ragged on.
