I hate to say it, but it will be a long, LONG time before football will be seen back on this campus for several reasons. They are:
1. Gender equity. As already stated, unless there's a change in laws (which I don't anticipate) if we formally add a football team to the University then you must add at women's sports that reflect the ratio of m vs f sports.
2. The cost of ADDING women's sports alone is prohibitive for an athletic dept. that is already strapped for cash.
3. The cost of adding a football team is not just expensive to start up (facilities, staffing, etc.), but maintaining it alone is killer. And where do you play that's Division I caliper? Shorewood HS? Valley Fields?
When I was on the athletic board about 7 years ago we DROPPED men's vball because of gender equity, dried up funds from the USVA, cost to travel to East/West coast to play the "other" 18 division I vball programs, and to avoid the expense of adding women's softball, which as being considered at that time.
I've been amazed at the success and spirit shown by the football club team; what an amazing amount of work and dedication! I would love to see the university sanction a team, but I've been in on too many conversations with Univ. officials expressing the above concerns.
Just my thoughts...

There are some unknown factors that are being considered for football that is outside of the public eye. There IS money in the area, and we haven't even begun to tap our large alumni base. We are building a stadium at Riverside HS. It will not be able to hold a DI team, but it will be able to hold a I-AA team.
Hopefully in the next year, I can freely talk about a stadium that can hold a I-A team, and 2 more women's programs to boot. For now, we can only hope that the chips fall where they may..........
