Has anyone else been disappointed with the level of officiating this year (as a whole) in the Horizon League? For example, the last game between UWGB and UWM was very poorly officiated IMO. I don't think it favored anyone in particular, it was just all around poor. One trip down the court they would let the guys bang as hard as they wanted, and the very next trip they would call a foul for looking at someone wrong. It was just very inconsistent and made it difficult for the players to get a feel for the game and really get comfortable with what would, and would not, be called. There are MANY more games I have issues with (the game at Loyola), but I won't go there. Has anyone else noticed things to be worse this year than in the past? We (UWM) has been pretty quiet on this issue, I am guessing because we are winning, but almost every other board (Butler, Detroit, Loyola in particular) have really had "issues" so far this year.

To be honest, as a whole, I think the officiating has been a bit better. Then again, we haven't gotten Sid Rodeheffer too many times, so my opinion is likely skewed. But, in certain games, at certain times, I think the officiating has been horrible. The GB game here was one of the worst officiated games (all around) that I've ever seen. Both teams were holding jerseys all game long and the officials lost control of things withing the first 5 minutes (very difficult to do). At the Loyola game in Chicago, the refs literally did all they could to bring Loyola back into the game.
But, that being said, I thought the Detroit, Youngstown State, Butler (just a flat out ugly game - not due to officiating) and UIC games were pretty well officiated. Although there have been some suspect officials, as a group, they have done a pretty decent job, IMO.

Sid Rodeheffer = I am viewing the officiating like a game.........we would not be happy if UWM played well for 30 or 35 minutes but lost control of the game for 5 or 10 minutes - because those 5 or 10 minutes could be so bad that they end up losing the game for us. I agree that at times, the officiating has been good. Further, there have been whole games that are ok, but there have been to many times where they simply lost control of the game/situation.........not only in UWM games, but in other games that I have seen on TV. Sure, everyone makes mistakes and misses calls, etc. but this is a job for these guys. They should not continually lose control. It is unusual for you not to notice a ref in a HL game - the ultimate goal of refereeing. What is scary is that ocassionally you will see some of these guys on TV doing BIG games.
