Ramblers Return Home to Face Horizon League Co-Leader UW-Milwaukee
1/9/2004
Loyola (6-6, 2-1) vs. UW-Milwaukee (8-5, 3-0)
Jan. 10, 2004 - Chicago, Ill.
1:00 pm CST - WYLL (AM 1160)
Today’s Game: Loyola looks to rebound from its first conference loss, a 77-59 setback at crosstown foe UIC, when it entertains Horizon League co-leader UW-Milwaukee this afternoon. The Panthers enter as the hottest team in the conference, having won 12 of their last 13 Horizon League tilts dating back to last season. This afternoon’s affair wraps up a grueling stretch that has seen the Ramblers play four games in eight days.
Loyola - UW-Milwaukee - The Series: This is the 27th meeting between the schools with Loyola possessing a slight 14-12 edge in the all-time series. UW-Milwaukee has won five of the last six meetings including the last three. The Ramblers, who have not defeated the Panthers in Chicago since a 79-77 victory on Feb. 10, 2000, have played some nail biters against UW-Milwaukee recently. Five of the last seven contests between the teams have been decided by four points or less. Milwaukee swept the season series a year ago, earning a 100-80 victory at the Klotsche Center before escaping with a 92-91 decision at the Gentile Center on Feb. 1, 2003. In that contest at Gentile, Demetrius Williams’s 22 points and 21 rebounds weren’t enough to help Loyola overcome a 16-point second-half deficit. David Bailey netted 33 points to pace the Ramblers in that game.
Head Coach Larry Farmer: In his sixth season at Loyola, Larry Farmer has been at the helm of the Rambler program longer than any coach since Gene Sullivan (1980-89). The NCAA record holder for the best three-year record as a player, Farmer helped UCLA to three national championships and an 89-1 ledger while playing for Hall of Fame coach John Wooden from 1970-73. In over five years at Loyola, Farmer has compiled a 68-88 (.436) record and he owns a career 163-165 (.497) mark. Farmer lays claim to a 33-44 (.429) record in Horizon League play, and is 3-7 versus UW-Milwaukee since arriving in Rogers Park.

Panthers look for 4-0 league start
Jan. 9, 2004
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee heads to the road for the first time in Horizon League play, visiting Loyola Saturday at 1 p.m. CST. The Panthers are 3-0 in Horizon League play after a 71-59 win over Butler Thursday night. The Ramblers fell to 2-1 in the league with a loss at UIC Thursday.
* Last Time Out
UWM held Butler to just 20.7 percent shooting in the first half, then shot 58.3 percent in the second half en route to a 71-59 win over the Bulldogs Thursday night at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The Panthers led 25-20 at the half but quickly pushed the lead out to 10 on a three-point basket by Ed McCants and then led by as many as 16 in the second half. Dylan Page led all scorers with 23 points.
* Fast Out Of The Blocks
UWM is 3-0 in the Horizon League for the second-straight season under Bruce Pearl. But, the Panthers have never been 4-0 to start a league season. Last year, UIC beat UWM, 102-92, in the fourth league game of the season.
