From the blog of Andy Katz comes a story of how good Calipari thinks his Tigers are. So good, he tells a 7 foot prospect who was recruited by almost everyone in the south to go to the NBA.
Here is the bottom of the story.
Calipari is raving about his newcomer class, notably small forward Shawne Williams, point guard Chris Douglas-Roberts, power forward Kareem Cooper, center Hashim Bailey and small forward Robert Dozier.
Calipari said Cooper is a "Wayman Tisdale-like" player who can shoot 3s and will play the pick-and-roll extremely well. Williams flirted with entering the NBA draft but decided against it within the final few weeks.
The Tigers could be a top-10 team next season with the return of point guard Darius Washington and forwards Rodney Carney and Joey Dorsey.

More surgery for the tigers.
Thiero To Undergo Surgery Next Week The Tigers' 6-foot-10 forward suffered a torn right ACL June 19.
Almamy Thiero will undergo surgery to repair his torn right ACL July 7.
June 29, 2005
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Almamy Thiero, a redshirt junior on the University of Memphis men's basketball team, is set to undergo surgery to repair his torn right ACL July 7. The surgery will take place at the Campbell Clinic Surgery Center.
The 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward suffered the torn ACL in a pick-up game at the Finch Center June 19. Following the surgery, Thiero will go through six-to-eight months of rehabilitation and is expected to miss the 2005-06 campaign.
The Mali, West Africa, native saw action in 23 games and averaged 0.5 points and 1.7 boards last year.
Thiero has had an injury-plagued career at Memphis. As a freshman in 2002-03, he saw limited playing time early before undergoing surgery to place a metal rod in his lower leg as a result of a stress fracture to his tibia. He received a medical redshirt for that season. Thiero played in three games as a redshirt in 2003-04, but was sidelined in mid-December when an examination found blood clots near his lungs.
I feel terrible for Almamy. He has hardly seen any PT and basically has had some sort of injury or health problem while playing basketball for Memphis. In light of his past history of health problems this will most likely not change the Memphis team. But i would like to illustrate how much this guy has gone through yet he still plays for the tigers when he can. Your prayers, thoughts, or whatever you do should go to Almamy.
This gentleman had a very promising high school career but injury after injury has kept him off the court. However, i would speculate that he serves as an inspiration to his team an all basketball players. To keep at it, and win one for Almamy.
end scene.

saw on ESPN's site that Rodney Carney broke a rib last week during tryouts for the U-21 national team and is no longer taking part in it. Obviously he'll be healed by the time our game comes but just thought i'd mention it.
