NEW YORK – Duke and Wisconsin-Milwaukee, both of whom reached the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament last season, lead the field for the 2005 Preseason NIT. The Blue Devils, who won the 16-team tournament in 1985 and 2000, will host Boston University in one of four opening-round games Nov. 14, the NIT said Tuesday. Wisconsin-Milwaukee, making its debut in the Preseason NIT, plays at Memphis in one of the four first-round games Nov. 15. www.signonsandiego.com/sports/college_basketball/20050517-1908-bkc-preseasonnitfield.html

Just let this sentence sink in for a second...

That is sweet.

Congrats on getting an invite to the pre-season NIT. Always nice to have the early season tournaments after you.
I know they mentioned it was Milwaukee's first invite to the NIT but is this the first ever early season tournament for the Panthers? Or, have they been in another one?

They've been in early season tournaments ... but nothing like this or Maui or Alaska.

Once again leave it to JS. Theres an article on this but its burried in the sports section behind a story on U.W. Whitewaters pitchers. This is one of the biggest recognitions we have recieved and deserves more attention, and also running a story about how the NCAA is going to explore teams mascots which has nothing to do with marquette because if they would have instated a warrior it would have been without an Indian correlation. Even after embarrasing themselves as a university, they are still getting more press than us

sad thing is that, lets say UWM gets the the Final Four and so does MU, the Panthers will be BURIED in the press all in favor of Marquette! It makes me sick that the Urinal newspaper buries the Panthers like that!

An upset here is definitely possible. Memphis lost last season to teams such as: Ole Miss, LA Tech, Providence, TCU, Houston, & St. Louis. I don't think losing to UAB would've been an upset since they made it to the 2nd round of the tourney so i'm merely mentioning that Memphis lost to them as well.

i think if we can continue the momentum from last season we have a damn good chance at making a lot of noise in this and get some early recognition.

Send them an email.

Amen Lou. Thanks!
Memphis was a pretty solid squad last year, and if I remember correctly was a very young team. They made it to the C-USA Tourney Championship and got beat by Louisville by 2. That kid that missed the free throws in the Conference USA Tourney championship is going to be out to prove himself his first game back. Yes, we have a chance, but it's also on the road. Should be a good game.
