Just a few notes on the upcoming season ...
In the search for playing time, Charlie has transferred out of the program. I understand that Platteville is a possible destination, as Sharif is now an assistant coach there. Thanks to Charlie for a good three years. My guess is that the remaining two scholarships for 2009-10 will go to Kamp and Jerard.
The Panthers will play Bowling Green of the MAC in a home and home series, with the first game being played there in 2009-10. This leaves us with two open dates on our 31-game schedule. I understand there's a good possibility that we'll play the NIT third- and fourth-round games at The Cell.
Milwaukee will have three uniforms for the upcoming season, with white at home, black on the road and gold as an alternate. I've seen the prototypes and they are very sharp.
James has resumed full-fledged activities and looks to be in the same shape in which he ended last year. He'll again be a major contributor. Tone remains inactive and intends to play again soon.
There's a very slick Buccaneers football autographed by the current coach available for bidding at the golf auction. It could be a fierce bidding war between fan and pantherholic.

Man, Swiggett was a flop. Too bad.

"Thanks to Charlie for a good three years." Please remove the word "good" from that sentence. Except for his dunk against Michigan (that didn't count) his stay was unremarkable. He certainly had no known off-court problems, which is a positive, but if that is the level of expectation that has now been set for UW-M players, that's sad. The one positive that may be speculated on from this development may be that one or two of the incoming players have shown themselves to be good enough point guards that Charlie figured he would not have a chance at any playing time. I hope so, because as mediocre as Charlie has been, the team really, REALLY needs help at the PG position.

For all those ripping on Charlie, let's tear your knee to shreds and see if you can resume a high stress activity like basketball at a high level. Some can do it, not all.

You know a poster is bad when no one mentions raar's comment.
I'm actually beginning to wonder if raar, yuhayden, and any other number of posters are the same person holding separate accounts.
Take it from me, who enjoyed the first two months of BlackPantherUWM's anonymity because I was still posting as JimmyLemke.

I've heard there's a possibility of two-for-ones with Cincinnati and/or Missouri, starting this season.

Here's a sample non-conference schedule for the 2009-10 season:
vs. Western Kentucky (NIT first round, Baton Rouge, La.) at LSU (NIT second round, Baton Rouge, La.) at Bowling Green at Cincinnati vs. North Carolina State (NIT third round, U.S. Cellular Arena) vs. Charlotte (NIT fourth round, U.S. Cellular Arena) at Marquette vs. Miami (Ohio) at Wisconsin at Missouri at SIU-Edwardsville at North Dakota State BracketBuster (home)
That's potentially 10 games against NCAA tournament qualifiers (including home-and-homes with Butler and CSU) and seven games against teams that advanced at least as far as the second round.

That's a rough schedule. I like it. I'd rather see this than garbage games.

Point taken, but Charlie was not good before he hurt his knee, either. He was a shoot first point guard that could not shoot. I wish him well but GOD's characterization of his stay at UW-M as "good" was gracious at best.

Actually, my recollection was that Charlie had emerged as our starting point guard prior to tearing his ACL. I recall that it set us back a considerable distance to have to install Al as the starting floor general. And is it all that bad to be gracious when parting company. After all, the young man simply wants to continue to play the game he loves competitively for as long as he can.
