Al was a big step down from Charlie? OK, I stand corrected. (Sorry Al.)
Charlie was good point guard and had three good years at UW-M.

yuhayden, this doesn't have anything to do with anyone's recollection of Charlie, but I'd like you to take a look at something: grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/hori/genrel/auto_pdf/07_brand_id_guide.pdfGo to page 8 of this PDF file. It is a list of the preferred, acceptable, and unacceptable references for all Horizon League teams. The University of Wisconsin--Milwaukee has expressed that it is "Unacceptable" to refer to the athletics team as "UW-M." From now on, if you prefer to use the acronym name of the Panthers basketball team, the preferred name is "UWM," not "UW-M."

Not every scholarship player is going to be a stud. As long as he is a good student and citizen, which it seemed like Charlie was, there is no need to treat him like this. Good luck to him at Platteville.

Here's a sample non-conference schedule for the 2009-10 season: vs. Western Kentucky (NIT first round, Baton Rouge, La.) at LSU (NIT second round, Baton Rouge, La.) at Bowling Green at Cincinnati vs. North Carolina State (NIT third round, U.S. Cellular Arena) vs. Charlotte (NIT fourth round, U.S. Cellular Arena) at Marquette vs. Miami (Ohio) at Wisconsin at Missouri at SIU-Edwardsville at North Dakota State BracketBuster (home) That's potentially 10 games against NCAA tournament qualifiers (including home-and-homes with Butler and CSU) and seven games against teams that advanced at least as far as the second round. If that is correct that will be there non-con. They can have 28 games. 18 Conference, 9 non con and the preseason NIT only counts as one game even though they will play 4 games because the tourney is exempt. That is a tough schedule. But this is the best team we have since Jeters first year. I think this team is good enough to make some noise. I know it says we are the host of the 3rd and 4th round games of the NIT. But if we go 2-0 down in Baton Rouge we will head to the Garden. That would be cool.

UWM needs a strong winning record overall this year. In fact, anything less than 20 wins is a disappointment.

That's a sweet schedule if we can make it happen.

If the Panthers win the first two games at Baton Rouge, they go to the Garden for two more games. Would they still host the third and fourth round games?
How do some of you here, know who the Panthers are going to play? Where do you get your info? Thanks for the info!!! I hate waiting until Labor Day weekend when the schedule comes out.

That would be great to have N.C. State of the ACC and Charlotte of the A-10 at the Arena!!!

If that schedule pans out it will be one tough but fun season to watch.

There is no way that can be the non-league schedule for two reasons. First, it's too many games away from home and they still want to add homes games. That list is at 31 games with the HL part. Second, it's way to hard. The best the Panthers could come out of it is 5-9 at best.

We have to move forward. The team we have now should be better than the one we had last season, given the additions/subtractions we had. Quite frankly I hope the schedule is true, because then it means we have the balls to get out here and play the good teams like we used to.

Hope that is not the schedule or we will be 3 -10 or 4-9...not a reflection on our team but that schedule is brutal...

A couple of things ...
1, The schedule, if it comes to fruition, is challenging. I would stop short of calling it brutal, though, as Bowling Green (19-14 a year ago) loses its three leading scorers (Nate Miller, 13.8 points; Brian Moten, 11,2; and Darryl Clements, 10.2) and Miami (17-13) loses MAC East Player of the Year Michael Bramos and four other seniors, including power forward Tyler Dierkers and point guard Kenny Hayes. Miller, Moten and Clements combined to score 53 points in its season-ending 73-71 NIT loss at Creighton.
2, Remember that the LSU (27-8) game won't come about unless the Panthers defeat Western Kentucky (25-9), which advanced to the Sweet 16 two years ago and came within a few seconds of duplicating the feat last year. While the Hilltoppers lose all-Sun Belt guard Orlando Mendez-Valdez, they return the rest of their nucleus intact along with a three-star recruiting class. In fact, it's likely that Milwaukee will face a low-major in the second round.
3, Charlotte (11-20) likely appears to be a more impressive opponent than it actually is, as the 49ers went only 5-12 in the Atlantic-10 a year ago. The 49ers will be led this season by Boston College transfer Shamari Spears.
5, Summit League champion North Dakota State (26-7) loses four starters from a year ago, including 6-foot-10, 240-pound center Lucas Moormann and program cornerstones Ben Woodside, Brett Winkelman and Michael Nelson. To say the quartet will be difficult to replace would be a gross understatement.
5, SIU-Edwardsville (10-20), a second-year provisional Division 1 team now playing in the Ohio Valley Conference, figures to be a pretty beatable team despite playing at home.
6, Proposed games against Cincinnati (18-14) and Missouri (31-7) are far from set in stone, and I would say it's likely that at least one of the tentative games will be replaced by a home contest against a regional mid-major opponent.
7, The ESPN BracketBuster game is, as always, impossible to project. Our home record a year ago was a somewhat sparkling 12-3, but we are 1-6 in the BracketBusters and 4-10 in games arranged through the event, including 3-4 in return games. As I said, this is impossible to project.
In short, I see no fewer than five non-conference victories here, with more possible depending upon the BracketBuster and the home draw in the third and fourth rounds of the Preseason NIT.
