I'll be attending the #9 Oshkosh North vs. #11 Oshkosh West game this Friday. As a North alum (and son of the principal) of course I want them to win. But to see UWM recruit Andy Polka put in 15-20 wouldn't be bad either. ;D
Saturday I'll be heading to the UWGB game.

Just back from the North vs. West game. West, despite being 10x taller than North, just squeaked out an OT victory. Bruce Pearl was in the audience of 3,000+. ;D
Polka didnt really have the opportunity to impress me, his guards were not that great in getting him the ball. It was blatantly obviously to just send it down to the post, but for some reason his guard combo ignored their size advantage. (North doesnt have a kid above 6'4"...West starts 3 above that height). Huge credit to North's guards and coaches for keeping the ball out of Polka's hands.
Polka's passing skills, rebounding impressed me the most. He will be best as an "assistant" to Waters, giving the opposition a headache in covering an assist master, and 7'0" stud in the blocks. Great post combo!
Overall, he looked good, but I would like to see him play much better as a scoring threat to be a "lock" D1 player.

I would expect most of that assistance, of course, to come from Mr. Ryan Childress.

Polka, Childress, Waters, Tigert, Ford....
Are we going to have the best frontcourt in HL history soon??

Polka is only a Junior, he won't be playing with Tigert or Ford.

yeah, I figured that out last night...

I would say that based on what I've witnessed in the league over the last 15 years that Waters, Childress and Tucker have the POTENTIAL to be the best frontcourt in league history. Of course, much as with the heralded pro prospects of one Javier Mendiburu, that's relying heavily on statistics and ratings. That doesn't include Joah, of course. We know what he can do.

Lets not get to hyped on Polka. I have seen him play and i have played against him also. He is pretty strong. From last year I remember him being afraid to use his weight/ size. He also has a tendancy to commit over the back fouls on the offence of boards. He is good a blocking out. I think with another year of HS and maybe a year redshirting would make him into a great HL center or PF

That's precisely my concern. He'll never be a center on this team or in this league at 6-feet-6 and with 6-9 Childress at the 4, he won't play much there either. Is he a classic 'tweaner? Can he play small forward?

Can he play small forward? He has the tendancies of a center ( Slow, rough, some weight, commits too many fouls, and doesn't shoot well beyond 15feet) Small forward would take alot of work on his shooting and getting faster to beable to move with the SF of the HL.....Polka plays mostly PF ans a little C. I dont know who the 6-10 6-11 C on Oshkosh West. oh well. overall he has a ton of work to do. a year of red shirting would help out.

Thanks, PantherMan. Of course, you don't recruit every kid to be a 20-point scorer or a 30-minutes-a-game player and perhaps he'd be a solid role player for the next four years. Maybe keeping the connection to the Fox Cities is the No. 1 objective here.

I think if you like Tigert's play, you'll like Andy Polka.

Andy's passing and rebs most impressed me when I watched him last weekend. He'll be most dangerous in a duo with Walter Waters developing some great post plays.

Off the top of my head the best frontcourt in Horizon League history goes to and probably always will to Xavier's frontcourt of Tyrone Hill, Brian Grant, Derek Strong and Aaron Williams in the early 1990s. Each of them ended up in the NBA. This group had some great success in the NCAA tournament which moved Xavier right up and out of the Horizon (MCC).
