OK, I'll start the thread. How would former McDonald's All-American and ex-Kentucky recruit Joe Crawford look in Black and Gold alongside former Detroit prep rivals and top 100 recruits Walter Waters and James Douglas?

I was going to start a thread on this last night, except I couldn't figure out a six degrees of separation to link him back to the UWM program like some other schools are doing .

From what I have read today, it seems most signs are pointing to Detroit. Cotton and Crawford...scary!
He would be a great pick for our program. Douglas is rated as a guard who can drive, rather than a shooting guard. Crawford would seal us with a shooter...adding to 6'8" Childress, 7'0" Waters (he is taller than Ford), and 6'2" PG/SG Douglas...that's a great class!
We still have 1 more scholarship to give. Unless Pearl subtracts a scholarship from our current roster opening up room for another.
Of course now I'm getting too far ahead...

Crawford exits Kentucky
Renaissance graduate wants to play more, is likely to transfer to a Michigan school

DETROIT -- Citing a lack of playing time and other factors, freshman Joe Crawford, a McDonald's All-America from Detroit Renaissance, said Tuesday he has left the University of Kentucky and will transfer.
Crawford is expected to enroll at a Michigan university, likely Michigan State. But Michigan and Detroit Mercy are possibilities.
"I was disappointed in the playing time," Crawford said. "It just wasn't the right situation. I was far from home. In this (type of) situation, I might as well be at home."
Crawford averaged 13.3 minutes for No. 9 Kentucky (10-2), but his playing time diminished in the two most recent games. He played four minutes in a victory over South Carolina and a season-low three minutes in a loss to No. 2 Kansas on Sunday.
He averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds.
"We're certainly disappointed that Joe chose to transfer," Kentucky Coach Tubby Smith said. "He has been given his release. We all wish him the best wherever he decides to continue his collegiate career and his college studies. We certainly enjoyed him.
"He's a kid that will do well wherever he goes. But whenever someone leaves in those situations, it's an opportunity for someone else to step up and contribute."
Crawford, a 6-foot-4 guard, teamed with Malik Hairston, now a freshman at Oregon, to lead Renaissance to a 27-0 record and the Class B title last season. It was the school's first state basketball title.
Hairston is averaging 29 minutes and 12.7 points in starting all 12 of Oregon's games.
Crawford said Hairston tried to contact him Tuesday after learning of the decision. Crawford said he would try to contact Hairston later Tuesday.
In the second semester of his junior season at Renaissance, Crawford committed to Michigan. Early in his senior year, he changed his mind. He signed with Kentucky in November 2003.
Crawford attended the Renaissance-Detroit City game Tuesday at Detroit Chadsey's gymnasium, City's home court. He said he wanted to discuss his future in college basketball with Renaissance Coach Mark White.
"He's given me good advice in the past," Crawford said, "and I want to talk with him, and my parents (Joseph and Sylvia)tonight, before I make a decision."
When asked if returning to his home in Detroit meant he would choose a school within the state, he replied, "I don't want to mention any schools right now."
Crawford was one of three McDonald's All-Americans in Kentucky's freshman class, joining Randolph Morris and Rajon Rondo, both of whom have started all season.
Colleges are not allowed to contact Crawford until Kentucky releases him from his scholarship, which it was expected to do late Tuesday. Crawford said paperwork still had to be done and he couldn't talk about his situation as freely as he would like.
Early in Crawford's high school career, he showed an interest in attending MSU. But when Shannon Brown, now a sophomore at MSU, signed, Crawford turned his attention to other schools. Brown plays shooting guard, just as Crawford does.
MSU seniors Alan Anderson, Kelvin Torbert and Chris Hill will end their careers this season, and that factor could attract Crawford to East Lansing. All three are are guards, and their departure will create playing time for junior Maurice Ager, Brown and, possibly, Crawford.
Crawford acknowledged that MSU's situation is attractive to him.
The start of the second semester, which was this past Monday at MSU, also will influence how soon Crawford decides. He must enroll for this semester to be eligible to play the second semester of next season, starting in January 2006.
"It depends on the school I choose," he said. "Some are by Friday, some are by next week."

sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=1968972This is one of the most irritating things about sports, especially college basketball. Allow me to venture a guess, but Crawford feels he is entitled to play and "be a star" since he was an All American, and so highly recuited, yada yada, yada.... His family, instead of giving him appropriate advice, tells him, "OK Joe, whatever makes you happy". And they trip over themselves to drive down there and pack him up and get him away from the "mean Coach" who is holding him back. You know what I say? TOUGH SH*T! So you don't get what you hoped for, eh? Welcome to life, kid. This is the way things go. You think you can just whine and complain when things go wrong? You think that after 2 months of college that you deserve to override the coaches of one of the most storied programs in history? TOO F-ING BAD!!! I am sick and tired of this mindset of entitlement that people (in all walks of life) think that they are entitled to happiness, confidence, success, etc. You want those things? Make them happen. Don't run when it doesn't go the way you (in your years of wisdom ) think it should. I think it's great that Tubby Smith said NO to releasing him from his letter of intent. Punk! Ok, rant over.
