I look at teams like Queens and Colgate and St. Thomas (get ready to rumble!) doing better than us, almost 20 years removed from a Sweet 16 and wonder where all the time went. (To say nothing of Butler and Loyola...) Will we ever be a perennial (anything)? Bart needs to change his recruitment approach and offensive strategy. Filling the team with smaller, faster shooters can work in D3, but you need bigger players overall in D1. You aren't going to last in D1 by living and dying by the 3. Great post, Ty! Copy and paste on the masthead!

Not going to lie I am glad we didn't win in another last gasp effort (after losing All game).
Team needs to figure out 40 minute basketball 🏀.

I feel like today was more of a last year type game. I'm not even discouraged after this one. We found some good things with Faizon and the shooting from EJ and KP.
I'd love to win them all but the second half was something to build on. We got back to the style that won us a ton of games. Maybe Learic is the new JT as he gets more experience.
Let's go kick GB's ass next week.

Lundy also says we want to make our opponents play uphill. The press made So. Miss into some turnovers. It actually relax Milwaukee on the offense of end. I would like to see some trapping press in the 1st half with our 2nd team to create energy.
Let's hope this is a sign to things to come from Fields.
Wilson is no Rand. His shot selection is terrible. Stuart couldn't guard anyone. Howell on the fast break jacking that three got benched. Browning has to continue to attack the glass.
Week off. Lundy said, comes at a great time. Need the practice time.

It was our once-a-year game where the opponent had a local player with a huge fan section present and that player dominated. Glad we got it out of the way. 😄

Still on my over/under on win totals being 10-12. Team needs to play a whole game to convince me otherwise. What did that admin tell you when you yelled at the refs late in the game. I think if you get tossed by the refs there they maybe win the game.

Furious second-half rally comes up just short as UW-Milwaukee loses to Southern Miss Todd Rosiak Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
The UW-Milwaukee Panthers remain very much a work in progress.
How close are they to putting it all together? That depends on your outlook.
The glass-half-empty crowd would point to a terrible first-half performance on Saturday afternoon that left the Panthers in a 15-point halftime deficit while the glass-half-full crowd would point to the team's inspired play over the final 12 minutes that whittled what was a 23-point deficit to two with 1 minute 41 seconds remaining.
There would be no storybook finish, however, as UWM couldn't manage to draw any closer and ultimately fell to Southern Mississippi, 90-84, at the Klotsche Center.
"We were an unconfident bunch going into this," said coach Bart Lundy, whose team entered on the heels of a last-second victory over Siena on Tuesday. The Panthers are now 3-4 in a season in which big things are still expected -- most notably a strong showing in the Horizon League.
"There's no moral victories. I think we got some confidence coming out of this. I don't really think we're anywhere close to what we can be, anywhere close to where we can be. We've got to be really good in March, and put ourselves in a really good position going into March.
"Part of this has been our scheduling issues; we've had to go all around the country. We've fought through sickness and injury and the travel and the time changing. Southern Miss was a hungry team. They came in here with their backs against the wall. We played like that in the second half.
"Maybe it's hit our guys -- 'OK, we've got to turn this around.'"
With just over 14 minutes to play, the Panthers were on their way to their largest home loss in nearly two years.
But once Lundy began employing the press the tenor changed quickly and UWM began cashing in turnovers and quick misses by the Golden Eagles into points on the other end.
Scores on seven consecutive possessions pulled the Panthers to within 11 points with 7:36 remaining, and a flurry of three-pointers -- one each from BJ Freeman, Kentrell Pullian and Elijah Jamison -- made it a two-possession game at 80-74 with 3:23 left.
After the teams exchanged free throws, Faizon Fields hit a pair for UWM. Then, the Panthers converted a turnover into a Freeman layup that made it 82-80 and again furiously hounded the inbounds play, onto to see the Golden Eagles throw clear over the top and slam home an alley-oop dunk on the other end.
Southern Mississippi hit six straight free throws the rest of the way to put the wraps on its first victory over a Division I opponent in five tries this season.
"When we should have, when we cut it to a one-possession game, taken that press off," Lundy said. UWM shot 55.9% in the second half but allowed 56% shooting itself over the final 20 minutes and 50.8% for the game. "They got the alley-oop dunk. But we had just turned them over, so I got a little greedy with it.
"We had a lot of shots there at the end to cut (the lead) and make it more interesting. But you can't put yourself in that kind of hole."
Pullian scored 13 of his team-high 21 in the first half while Fields had his biggest game yet with 17 points (9 for 11 free throws) and six rebounds. Jamison added 16 points and Freeman 14.
Lundy gave Markeith Browning II his first start of the season at point guard, and in 33 minutes he delivered nine points, three rebounds and six assists but turned the ball over five times as well.
Erik Pratt, who had been serving as the backup point guard to Jamison, didn't play due to a coach's decision.
And Lundy said transfer Pierce Johnson, who was expected to shoulder a lot of the floor general duties, has had shots in his injured knee but no surgery to this point. It remains unclear if he'll be able to contribute this season.
"I thought Keith did a good job for his first time. And then, that Elijah that came off the bench was pretty good. So, maybe Elijah woke up a little bit and started to realize, 'Hey, I've got to run this team. I've got to play better.'"
The individual star for both teams was Southern Mississippi guard Donovan Ivory, who poured in a career-high 32 points on 10-for-17 shooting that included a 6-for-10 effort from behind the arc.
A Kaukauna native, Ivory had a large and vocal fan contingent on hand that enjoyed his performance.
"He came in here averaging (5.1) points a game and he gets 32," said Lundy. "Every time we made a run, he made a huge shot."
UWM now faces a three-game road trip that starts Saturday at UW-Green Bay, the Horizon League opener for both teams.
"It doesn't get much easier," said Lundy. "But nobody's going to feel sorry for you, and we've got to keep getting better. But that team in the second half, I thought that's what we would be from the start of the year. And I would say that's the first time I've seen that team in a game.
"So, hopefully we can build on it."

"Part of this has been our scheduling issues; we've had to go all around the country. We've fought through sickness and injury and the travel and the time changing."
Ahem. Who is responsible for scheduling, Coach Lundy? This program's scheduling has irked me for a long time, especially going into this season. I know I am not alone regarding this issue. As I've stated several times now, how about an honest, in-depth explanation from the program about the challenges involved with scheduling that we lay people apparently have a hard time understanding?
Lundy's comment reminds me of Ric Cobb stating several times to then-play-by-play announcer Dwayne Mosely after his latest loss, "this team was just not prepared for the game." Well, who the #$%^! is responsible for preparing the team?!?
Coach Lundy, who the #$%^! is responsible for scheduling? You where apologetic about it when it was released. Why is scheduling so difficult that you subject the team to a schedule you were not only apologetic for but are now critical of?

Need the practice time. Honestly the team basically HAS to press nonstop. We aren't going to out execute anyone we play ever. Just the reality, the team is low IQ and very unskilled. Also can't rebound at all. Basically the only option is to muck it up with the press and hope you can score in transition (since we aren't going to score consistently in the halfcourt) while simultaneously forcing some turnovers and hopefully reducing quality offensive possessions opponents get. Playing fast also mitigates the impact of bigs. Yeah, there are gonna be games we get run off the court by teams who can break a press for layups...but that's already happening anyway if we don't press.
There isn't really another option until the staff overhauls the roster.

In short, we need to throw up about 35-40 3s per game and try to outscore people 100-90. At least, that seems to be the hope.

The implication seems to be that someone outside the men's basketball program has a hand in scheduling and Lundy is frustrated that we literally have to travel coast to coast. Isn't that the fairest read of this situation?

We can speculate all we want about who at the university is ultimately responsible for non-conference scheduling until and unless the backroom secrets are openly and honestly revealed. What is making scheduling so difficult that results in the head coach apologizing and criticizing it? The lack of transparency regarding scheduling can lead us to all types of innuendo, including unsubstantiated conspiracy theories. If we fans are way off base regarding this issue, it is because we have no valid information to rely on, as it seems scheduling shouldn't be that hard. We only have the eye test.
And please, no "nobody wants to play us" excuse. That's code for "next question, please."

Just watched and listened to the no energy / no emotion Lundy post game speech. blah blah blah....
Coachiing is preparation Lundy and this team you recruited is not prepared mentally to play D1 basketball day in and day out.
Also please dont talk about about player rotations? huh imo it only makes you sound unprepared to opposing coaches listening
Lets not make last year a fluke.
