Women's hoops has won 6 out of their last 7 after last night's win over Robert Morris. That game followed a double OT thriller against Wright State, one of the better teams in the league, at home last week. Green Bay and Cleveland State have some separation at the top but after them it's 4 teams at 7-5 including the Panthers.
The top half of the league hosts either a 1st round or quarterfinal HL Tournament game, and the Panthers are right there. They shoot the 3rd most 3's in the league and currently hold their opponents to the third fewest points. It's exciting basketball and if you haven't made it to a game this year, you should!

I had little hope going into the season finale at Green Bay of a Milwaukee win, especially after the home loss to Oakland. I was therefore surprised to look at the live stats broadcast to discover that the score was close in the third quarter, and even more so to check again and find they had won, 65-61, behind 25 points from Kamy Peppler and 17 from Angie Cera.
I listened to the archived broadcast last night since there was no video available. In the pre-game show Coach Rechlicz noted that the staff had warned the players against complaining to the refs about calls, because the Phoenix don’t get called for fouls. The Panthers were 17-19 from the free throw line, compared to 8-13 for the Phoenix. That margin more than accounts for the victory, and is the more remarkable since Green Bay was top of the league in free throw percentage this season.
The win knocked the Phoenix out of a tie for first place with Cleveland State and into the second seed for the tournament. I am not sure that the Vikings would not have been the first seed if they had finished tied with the Phoenix. I believe the teams split their regular season games, and the other Phoenix league loss was to Oakland, who finished eighth in the standings. The second league loss for the Vikings was to Detroit, who finished sixth. (I went looking for a UWGB bulletin board to enjoy the wailing and gnashing of teeth, and found nothing.)
I don’t know whether or not the Oakland loss caused the Panthers to have to go on the road for the quarterfinal round of the league tourney, as I don’t know how the tiebreakers would have turned out had Milwaukee finished with the same 11-9 league record as Wright State, but as the fifth seed with a 10-10 league record, the Panthers will play at Wright State next Thursday night. The teams split their regular season games, with each team winning at home.

Milwaukee finished fifth in the regular season, so they avoided having to play a first round game in the tournament. They will travel to play Wright State in the Quarterfinals on Thursday. Tip time will be 5:30 PM eastern/4:30 PM central time. The Wright State men's team is scheduled to host a quarterfinal game at 8:00 PM eastern/7:00 PM central time against NKU (another 4 vs 5 game), hence the early start.
The Panthers and Raiders split their regular season games. Wright State won 77-70 in Dayton, and Milwaukee won at home, 93-86 in overtime. Both teams are coming off road wins in their respective season finales.

The home team won two of three first round games in the HL Women’s Tournament. Only Northern Kentucky in the 8-9 game against Oakland managed to pull off the win.
The quarterfinal round on Thursday looks like this: NKU will play at top-seeded Cleveland State; Youngstown State will play at Green Bay, Detroit Mercy will play at Purdue Fort Wayne; Milwaukee will play at Wright State.

Women's team lost tonight. They finish with a 16-16 record. Kyle Rechlicz is still below .500 in her 11 years at the helm. It might be time for a change but I doubt that will occur.

Nice coach and person I hear but I don't why in the world she's not on the hot seat. No NCAA tourney appearances and only made the Horizon League championship game once (a 32 point loss). Job security is strong because maybe she's flying under the radar. But the program should really hit the portal hard this off-season.

She did some things this season I’ve not seen her do before. She red-shirted her entire freshmen class, including her tallest player; usually she has played young players. She played a fairly tight rotation of six or seven experienced players; in previous years she has gone deeper.
Next year the roster should be younger. It will be interesting to see what activity there will be on the portal.

Green Bay's reward for winning the league tournament was an 11 seed and a first round matchup with the storied Tennessee program. It is worth noting that this was the first trip to the NCAA tournament for the Phoenix in six seasons. The quality of the women's programs in the league has improved to the point that Green Bay can no longer be pencilled in as the HL entry to the NCAA Tournament. The Phoenix have frequently played in the last six HL Tournament finals, but this was their first victory since 2018. Over the last six years, IUPUI, Wright State, Cleveland State have all won tourney championships.
The Phoenix played the Volunteers close for the first quarter, after which Tennessee gradually pulled away. The final score was 92-63.
Regular season champion Cleveland State accepted a bid to the WBIT and lost their first round game to Toledo.
Purdue Fort Wayne is the League’s rep in the WNIT, and has defeated Eastern Kentucky and Cincinnati so far, to reach the round of 16, in which they will play St Louis.
