This game was fun to watch. Southern Utah came back from 23 down in the second half. The ending shows why intentionally fouling late in the game to avoid a three pointer is not necessarily easy to execute. Utah Valley fouled with 12.1 seconds to go, despite having missed five consecutive free throws before that. Both teams exchanged fouls and made two free throws each. Then Utah Valley, again up 3, intentionally fouled with 4.9 seconds left, but it was a little late. Southern Utah shot the three pointer shown in the video clip while being fouled. They made it and the ensuing free throw. Southern Utah ended up winning on this four point play. Just like that, Utah Valley's season may be over despite a NET that would have been in the 60s had it won. It should be a good WAC finale for night owls to watch late tonight. Two very worn out teams, Southern Utah and Grand Canyon (beat top seeded Sam Houston State), will be duking it out. For those who watch, note the size and energy level of the crowd. Keep in mind GCU is approximately the same distance from Vegas that Milwaukee, with almost identical campus enrollment, is from Indy.

We had about 75 people on hand Monday, CP, including the band, poms and a comparatively large contingent for Jalen Johnson. What do you think the turnout will be for GCU? 1,000?!

For the semi final last night, fans filled both sides all the way to the top (endzones were empty). The play by play guy said at the beginning it was 95% GCU fans. It looked and sounded that way on TV. As the game went more on fans filled in for the nightcap, so it is hard to tell. I'd say 4,000ish for GCU. The GCU gathering for Tuesday afternoon's 5 vs 12 opening round matchup against UT-Arlington was probably 1,000+ GCU fans (Wednesday was an off day for the men). I'll guess 2,500 for the quarterfinal game against Seattle on Thursday. Jerry Colangelo has been very transparent about wanting GCU to move to the WCC. Tournament fan support, along with other factors, must make it very tempting to the WCC to replace BYU with it.

Disappointed for Sam Houston State. Watched the final 6 minutes. Should be a fun one tonight in the WAC.
Why did the Big West move it's conference tournament from Anaheim to Las Vegas. Other than Hawaii, the whole conference is California schools.

Other than Hawaii, the whole conference is California schools. I do not know, but I have a hunch. Here is a hint - $$$$$$$$$$ That makes five conference tournaments in Vegas - Pac 12, Mountain West, WCC, WAC and Big West. Hey Big Sky, what are you waiting for? With expansion and rumored further expansion of the B1G and Big 12, it seems only a matter of time before they play at least occasionally in Vegas, especially if the Pac 12 disappears.

With all due respect, Cactus, comparing a conference tournament turnout in Vegas to one in Indianapolis is an "apples and oranges" scenario.
Vegas is actually a destination city. Indianapolis just claims to be (or, at least the Horizon League claims it to be). I have never been compelled in my 41 years to go to Indianapolis for any reason, and I don't expect that to change. I would have gone to go to Hinkle, but I never got that opportunity before Butler left.

Howard ends on a 5-0 in the final 15 seconds. Norfolk with a 1 point lead. Worst inbound pass ever in a 1 point lead.

Regardless the destination, it is cool for a program to have legitimate university support and a passionate fan base that travels anywhere. When GCU played in the HOF Classic some 1,200 miles away this past Thanksgiving weekend, it sent the band, cheerleaders, dance team, mascot and about 50 students. This was in addition to other GCU fans and alumni. In other words, it had as much or more support for an MTE on a holiday weekend in a significantly colder city, comparable to Indianapolis, that was over four times further away. We had that vibe in the glory years. Hopefully we can head back in that direction despite the lousy HL deal that was extended another four years.

We had that vibe in the glory years. Hopefully we can head back in that direction despite the lousy HL deal that was extended another four years. We've never travelled like that. The reason they do is because GCU is a for-profit university and they operate with an understanding for what basketball is: marketing. This is also something that the current members of the Black and Gold Club would like to change. We would like to start organizing a stronger road presence, especially for the Horizon League Tournament. We haven't narrowed anything down because we'd like to get a meeting together, bring in some new members and organize, so if anyone is interested in being a part of that, please let us know by sending me a private message or hitting me up anywhere you can find me. Or Kenny. He's also obviously heavily in.
