The credit for moving the student section halfway through the second half goes to Jason Newkirk. He got my attention and when I could only get ~20 to follow me, I told him they’ll listen to him and he left the huddle to get the rest of them to follow.
That sh*t worked. I mean look what PFW did when we moved to their end of the court:

Great win tonight. I love what Lundy said post game. He talked about his strategy, what he told the team at that first time out and more. He also pointed out that PFW started 5 Super Seniors, while we started five guys who haven't played together before this year. He also said "We were picked ninth, that team we just played was picked 1st. We're not in First right now but they're in ninth." BOOYAHH www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WMq6l5j-Qc

I wouldn’t have been disappointed with 18 wins in the regular season. It’s already awesome what this team has accomplished. It was great to see them win tonight.

Tonight cliches a home game on March 2, I was told. I’m still pretty sure that was clinched when Damian Chong Qui made that game winning three on Sunday. That was not true I was told by a Milwaukee staff member.

Pullian's hot shooting, Freeman's triple-double lead UWM to critical win over Fort Wayne Curt Hogg Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
With the pace frenetic, the shots falling and the Klotsche Center amped up, UW-Milwaukee needed a victory to get back on the right track entering the most important stretch of the season.
Badly.
The Panthers will acknowledge there is work to be done still, but they got back on the right course Thursday night.
Kentrell Pullian was on fire shooting en route to 25 points, BJ Freeman had a triple-double and Milwaukee escaped with a 96-94 win over Purdue Fort Wayne.
It was a much-needed result for the Panthers coming off consecutive deflating losses last week on the road that put a serious dent in their regular season conference title hopes.
“Like we said in the locker room, we got to get our swagger back,” Pullian said.
Pullian had his back to say the least. He made 5 of 7 threes and hit 8 of 11 shots overall from the field for Milwaukee, which is now guaranteed a home game next Thursday in the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals.
Fort Wayne was throwing double teams at Freeman, Milwaukee’s leading scorer, all night. While Freeman got 22 field-goal attempts up himself – one-third of the team’s entire total – he also passed out of most double teams en route to 11 assists.
“Once everybody crashed on BJ, I felt like there were opportunities to make shots,” Pullian said.
With 12 rebounds, Freeman secured the fifth triple-double in program history.
“Tonight, I thought, was maybe BJ’s best game of the year,” Lundy said.
The Panthers also kept their chances of earning a share of the regular season conference title alive. First-place Youngstown State, which was upset by Robert Morris earlier in the week, is on the road Saturday against IUPUI – which may be in last place but did just beat Robert Morris on Thursday. Milwaukee hosts Cleveland State, which is tied for first with Youngstown State.
UW-Milwaukee guard Kentrell Pullian (12) drives past Purdue-Fort Wayne guard Damian Chong Qui (2) during the second half of their game Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee Wis. UW-Milwaukee beat Purdue Fort Wayne 96-94. Five Panthers scored in double figures as the team posted its highest scoring output of the season against a Division-I opponent. They eclipsed 100 points twice in November against Cardinal Stritch and MSOE. Justin Thomas scored 14 points, Elijah Jamison had 13 and Ahmad Rand added 12.
The Panthers trailed, 46-40, after a first half in which they struggled to get any stops in the halfcourt, allowing the Mastodons to shoot 60% overall and make six of 14 threes but flipped the script by ratcheting up the pressure and pace early in the second half.
After a Pullian three cut the deficit to three at 48-45, the Panthers dialed up a full-court trap. Immediately, it wrought a Justin Thomas steal and dunk.
Seconds later? Another Thomas steal. Another Thomas flush. Milwaukee had its first lead since the score was 15-14.
“We came into halftime and our guys were down a little bit,” Lundy said. “We just said, ‘Hey, let’s go have fun and let’s press them and get up and down a little bit. And our pressure was relentless. And it was fun.”
The teams engaged at a breakneck pace the rest of the way as the Panthers oscillated between the trap and man-to-man press the length of the floor. The lead exchanged hands 15 times between Thomas’ second dunk with 17:50 to play and a Freeman fadeaway with seven minutes left that put Milwaukee ahead, 75-73.
At one point, 10 of 12 scoring possessions by the Panthers either took the lead or tied the game.
Pullian and Angelo Stuart each drained a pair of threes after that to extend the lead to 87-82. Milwaukee jumped ahead by as many as nine at 91-82 with 74 seconds to go yet hadn’t put the Mastodons away just yet.
Damian Chong Qui scored on a layup and three to draw within four, the Panthers missed three free throws and a Thomas foul on a three-point attempt led to two made free throws from Jarred Godfrey to draw within 93-91 with 21 seconds remaining.
But Pullian calmly knocked a pair of free throws with 13.4 seconds left. Those proved to be critical as Chong Qui hit a three with 1.4 seconds to go to draw within one.
Jamison split a pair of free throws with 1.1 seconds and a 30-footer by Godfrey, who had a team-high 21 points, was no good – and for what it’s worth didn’t look like it was off in time, anyway.
“That was the longest 1.1 seconds of my life,” Lundy joked.
The Panthers are guaranteed at least second place and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament with a win on Saturday against Cleveland State. For a team picked to finish ninth, that’s quite a feat.
“We just want to control what we can control,” Freeman said. “They counted us ninth. That’s the motivation that’s going to keep us going through the tournament, through everything until our last game. They counted us ninth. That’s how I think about it.”

Trying to get more views on these press conference with a stand alone tweet. Everything is stuck on the follow up story. Can we make sure to have these re-tweeted for those on twitter. Trying to get more views on these press conference. I think local sports people would see this much easy, than paging on the story and clicking on a link.

That didn't happen tonight. In fairness, half the telecast was missing the call from him, so we may have just missed it. I actually enjoyed the three or four times that Wayne went silent for a couple of minutes at a time. The crowd audio was perfectly calibrated for the game, by far the best of the season. It was comparable to major network quality. I almost felt like I was there, especially during the times Wayne could not be heard and during the timeouts. It was so much better than some of the earlier games when Wayne sounded like he was calling the game from a soundproof booth. Kudos to all of you who were in the crowd making noise! It was great entertainment!

I mean look what PFW did when we moved to their end of the court: I am happy to see the focus on student placement at games. At the Klotsche, being at the baseline is OK because of close proximity to the court. The student presence, both before and after they switched ends, was quite noticeable on the game video. At the Arena the students seem so from the action. Even the student section at the larger student-attended games is not noticeable on game video. I still say at the Arena put the students along the sideline opposite the opponents' bench, or even at midcourt. Closer proximity to the court would enhance the game experience for all attendees by making it feel more like a COLLEGE basketball game. It would show respect to the students and make them feel more valued, rather than sticking them in the worst seats just because that is the way it was always done.

Kinda surprised Eli didn’t miss the second FT on purpose. I love Bart, but this is Coaching 101. Plan A is to make both. But if you miss the first, you want them shooting from 75 feet and not 25 feet!!!!! Do we know that coach didn't tell him to miss the second? It's a lot harder to miss a free throw on purpose, while still hitting the rim, than it sounds. I know I have an excellent chance at actually increasing my free throw percentage by simply trying to intentionally miss.

What was the crowd size? 2,500? It was hot and ROCKING at the K!!!! No chance, and it really wasnt that loud in person IMO. Its been louder at the arena this year. Maybe the pop when JT hit the game winner in the OOC tourney was the only louder moment. That was pure chaos.
