I would argue that it seems like the locker room got a lot better as Dominic Ham took more of a leadership role and took on a bigger role on the team.

JG: Stackhouse is a walk-on. Ham is likely our 12th man this season. Who cares about him taking a spot. As for last year, there was no saving the nonsense that happened last offseason and during the season. I mean he was on the squad and if your selling point is locker room guy and the locker room is a mess.... Well no, the locker room is not a mess. There were some sticking points but I heard of no issues after Markeith was kicked off the team. That's not to say Markeith was the only one causing problems, but his removal definitely seemed to show the team how seriously Coach Lundy was taking the disorder. As far as Ham, I don't think he would have had much effect on someone like Freeman or Browning, but leading by example generally works when you have impressionable young kids who may not know how to properly transition from high school to Division I. Honestly though, how much is this because it's August and you're looking for anything to nitpick? I'm not saying it's bad to nitpick, we all do it, this just feels a lot like the people who feel like the Bucks' season hinges on the 15th roster spot being taken by someone not named Antetokounmpo...

So to summarize...we're adding a guy who's been around since Coach came on board here - one of the longest standing dudes that knows what's expected and what kind of culture we're trying to build, he's not taking up a scholarship, we've got what appears to be one of the deepest rosters in the conference already where his basketball skills (or anyone else's we might pick up at this point) won't likely be needed much, and people are complaining?
Truthfully, he seems like a pretty good leader/glue guy to have around, in addition to KP and some of the more vocal guys who were here last year.

Hopefully hes not starting games late in the season for us or playing crunch time minutes in the conference tourney final.
FWIW multiple people texted me and asked me how and why Ham would be back. Its just odd after you do a whole senior night song and dance to come back for one more year.

Maybe his AARP money doesn't hit until 2026?

With all of the radical changes in D1 collegiate sports these days, perhaps they should forgo eligibility limits that are based on number of years. Just let 'em play as long as they are enrolled in school. It seems almost that way now anyway.

To answer some questions here, Ham is back because he only played 2 seasons and was technically considered a redshirt junior last year. He went through a legal battle with the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility and was granted it. His status as a student manager prior to him playing on the team was a major factor in this decision.
No, he will not be starting games. The plan is to have him start none actually. And only playing him sparingly or if there is another injury fiasco like last season. He’s a great guy to have around for morale and he also has a fantastic basketball IQ. If he wants to stay in school another year to earn his degree and keep playing the sport he loves, why not? Who are we to judge?

Who are we to judge? There was no reason he was getting burn over Davis at any point last season if we are talking about purely on the court. Id argue not playing Davis more and playing ham instead hampered his ability to contribute late in the year purely based on lack of reps. Ham got cooked in the conference tourney final and those should have been minutes Davis was ready for. His listed height always makes me laugh though, no way hes 6 foot 5. If he was he would be a more useful piece on the court. Hopefully the locker room issues are gone this next year because the team last year never seemed to gel the way youd hope.
