Any report on how long his contract will be? As short as possible I hope given the market realities. If he proves himself he can be extended. But we sure don’t want another five year reign of failure. We are already staring down almost an entire lost decade before there’s any realistic hope.
On that note I’d say it will be good progress if this guy can achieve a winning overall and conference record in year two and a top three league finish in year three. Again, an extremely low bar especially in this terrible league, but this is where the deconstruction of the program has put us.
He has his work cut out for him. The program is obviously in its worst position since Ric Cobb. But even Ric left Bo Clay Tucker. And with all due respect to Lundy, he’s no Bo Ryan.
And by the way, it’s easy to say “just tap the transfer market” but we’re not exactly a top destination for good players with other choices at the moment.

Any chance he brings some of his players from Queens?

Welcome Coach Lundy.
Let’s do this!

I would've taken McCollum or Howlett over Lundy. That said, we'll probably never know if either or both were contacted and weren't interested. At least Lundy has head coaching experience and has had some success. Time will tell. Howlett much younger at 35 years old and is 128-21 in 5 seasons. 5 straight NCAA regional appearances with one Elite 8 and one Sweet 16. Obviously a winner but must not have checked all the boxes that the AD wanted. Maybe style of play?

Going to stay cautiously optimistic for now. Obviously not the home run hire many of us hoped for, but it could be much worse. I mostly just have concerns if he will be able to recruit here as he has no ties to the region as a coach really.

Lundy’s age doesn’t bother me. Hopefully he can pluck a few D2 transfers for this initial class.

Reality is the actual opposite of delusion jmartin. The reality is that the new guy has his work cut out for him, because our program has been managed into a very deep hole. In a best case scenario, attaining mere relevance will take years. I assume Lundy understands that and is willing to build carefully from the ground up knowing the time it will take to rebuild from scratch the foundation that any successful program needs.
If he thinks he’s got a quick fix, look out even further below.

What coach is going to accept a contract less than 5 years? Certainly not a successful sitting head coach like everyone on this board wanted them to hire. Plus hiring a coach on a shorter "prove-it" contract doesn't exactly scream confidence to recruits.

He's been head coach at Queens long enough that I'm not concerned that he inherited an already-successful program.

I cannot stress this enough to the university leadership: MAKE SURE LUNDY HAS ALL THE SUPPORT HE CAN GET.

Today starts an optimistic new chapter for Milwaukee Panthers basketball with the announcement of Coach Lundy. Coach Lundy is well regarded within the coaching industry and brings 20 years of heading experience (combined in D1 and D2) with an overall record of 433–189.

The candidate(s) BBFran advocated for were mostly former UW-Madison assistants. Similarly, the only two former Panther head coaches in the modern era that he likes, significantly more than Bruce Pearl, have UW-Madison affiliation. I commented in two other posts today that we all have our biases. BBFran leads the way. That's OK, at least he is consistent, offers some alternative thought provoking viewpoints and teaches us big new words that we have to look up.
